Gordon Barcsik
Gordon Barcsik died peacefully Sept. 19, 2007. He was born Aug. 14, 1939 and lived all his life in Leask, Sask. He was baptized at an early age, and farmed from 15 years of age, until retiring when diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He continued to help farmers till one week before his death. Gordon married Miriam Peters in 1968 and they were blessed with twins. They attended Blaine Lake Chapel, where they served as deacons. Gordon is mourned by Miriam; children Daryl (Nicole), Debra (Leonard); 4 grandchildren; 1 sister. The funeral was Sept. 25 in Leask.
Dorothy Esther Dyck
Dorothy Esther Dyck died June 18, 2007 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born Dec. 23, 1922 in Winkler, Man. to John R. and Sara Wiebe. As an only child, she helped on the farm and explored the surrounding countryside. After school, Dorothy was a teacher in southern Manitoba and married Edmond Dyck in 1949, living in Rosenfeld, Morris, and Winnipeg. For 18 years, she taught at Princess Margaret School in Winnipeg. Dorothy enjoyed learning, reading, music, art, and travel. She served the River East MB congregation in Sunday school, pioneer girls, women’s fellowships, the library, choir, and the Women’s Auxiliary of Donwood Manor. She is mourned by Edmond; children Judith and John (Dorothy); 2 grandchildren. The funeral was June 25 at River East MB Church.
Sharon Harder
Sharon Ruthy Harder died Sept. 15, 2007 after battling cancer. She was born Mar. 31, 1959 in Elm Creek, Man. to Jack and Hilda Janzen. Sharon worked as a legal secretary and married Phil Harder, moving to Brandon, Man. She loved curling, baseball, 4-H, and playing piano in Justice MB Church. She enjoyed “hands-on” farming, driving the combine and gardening. She also enjoyed travelling, sewing, and cooking, living life to the fullest while putting her family first. She is mourned by Phil; sons Brent, Blaine, and Darren; parents Jack and Hilda; 2 siblings. The memorial service was Sept. 20 at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, Brandon, Man.
Victor Alexander Janzen

Victor Alexander Janzen died Sept. 29, 2007. He was born Aug. 18, 1918 in Alexanderkrone, Ukraine together with his twin Klaudia. Victor spent his early years blacksmithing with his father. He married Margaret Hooge in 1943, and escaped with the retreating German army soon after. He was captured by various armies, but reunited with his family thanks to the Red Cross, eventually farming in Arnold, B.C. and working for Modern Building Movers. Victor accepted Christ in Germany and was baptized in Canada, becoming a member of Arnold MB Church. In 1957, the family moved to Vancouver where they became members of Culloden MB Church, and then to Abbotsford in 1980. Victor enjoyed travelling, ironworking, and playing games. He will be remembered as a trustworthy, hardworking, honest man who was an example to the whole family. Victor is mourned by Margaret; children Edith (Eric) Klippenstein, Ettie Janzen, Harry (Josley) Janzen; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandsons; twin sister. The memorial service was Oct. 3 at Clearbrook MB Church, Abbotsford.
Henry Klassen
Henry Klassen died Sept. 14, 2007. He was born Dec. 17, 1923 in Gladyen, Russia to Jacob and Lena Klassen. The second of 13 children, he was forced to quit school at 13 to help feed his family during the Great Depression, after moving to Manitoba. Henry committed his life to Christ and was baptized at 15 in the Mennonite Brethren Church. He attended Winkler Bible School, where he developed a life-long love of reading and learning. In 1950, he married Helen Suderman and farmed for 37 years, serving continuously in church leadership. He was a man of wisdom, integrity and strong values, respected for his quiet voice of reason. He is mourned by Helen; children Alvin (Welma), Dennis (Nancy), Pamela (Waldo) Pauls, and Linda (Ray) Friesen; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 6 siblings. The funeral was Sept. 19 at Port Rowan (Ont.) MB Church.
Helen Janzen Kroeker
Helen Janzen Kroeker died July 30, 2007 at age 99. She was born Aug. 10, 1907 in Franztal, Russia to Jacob K. and Katharina Janzen. She enjoyed a carefree childhood, and moved to Manitoba in 1925 and then Yarrow, B.C. In Vancouver, she worked at Vancouver Mennonite Girl’s Home, in various housekeeping jobs, and as a seamstress in a clothing factory. In 1968, after moving to Los Angeles for work, she married Fred Kroeker of Merced, Cal. She will be remembered for her generosity to family and friends, remembering birthdays, and making delicious meals. Predeceased by 5 siblings and husband Fred, she is mourned by children Ruth, Carl, and Gerald (Sara); 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. The memorial service was Aug. 3 at Clearbrook MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C.
Leonard Lugowski
Leonard Lugowski died Oct. 22, 2007 at age 86. He was born May 10, 1921 in Wolla Wodzinska, Poland to Julius and Hulda Lugowski. Leonard enjoyed a peaceful and prosperous family life on the farm, was baptized at 10, and then conscripted to the German army at 19. Unlike his brothers Artur and Ewald, he survived WWII, spending two agonizing years in Russian prison camps. In 1949, he moved to Kitchener, Ont. with the help of Mennonite Central Committee, and soon married Annie Wohlgemuth. Leonard worked as a carpenter and then in tool and die design, serving with Annie as a deacon at Kitchener MB Church for 38 years. Joyfully, they used their gifts of generosity, hospitality, and selfless love. Len loved singing in choirs, travelling and helping on building projects. Leonard is mourned by Annie; children Linda, Paul, Doris, and Ron; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. The memorial service was Oct. 26 at Kitchener MB Church.
Waldemar (Wally) Mandau
Waldemar (Wally) Mandau died Aug. 15, 2007 from a heart attack. He was born Nov. 9, 1938 in Sendykowczyzna, Poland to Michael and Wanda Mandau. After losing his father in World War II, his family moved to Drake, Sask. He accepted Jesus as Saviour, and was baptized at 18 at Philadelphia MB Church. Wally moved to St. Catharines, Ont. and began a career as a counsellor at Bethesda Home. In 1971 he married Anne Janzen. Living out his faith in practical ways was important to him. He taught Sunday school for 27 years at Scott St. MB Church. Wally will be remembered as a loving and compassionate man, full of gentle strength and great faith. He is mourned Anne; children Rodney and Nancy; 5 grandchildren. The memorial service was Aug. 20 at Scott St. MB Church.
John Schellenberg
John Schellenberg died July 21, 2007 at age 78. He was born Jan. 12, 1929 in Carnduff, Sask. to Jacob and Maria Schellenberg. The third youngest of 12 children, John moved to Toronto for work when he was 14. He wed Mary Giesbrecht in 1951, and worked as a truck driver and millwright for over 30 years, spending long periods of time away from home to provide for his family of four. In 1966 they moved to Fort St. John, B.C., and then Waldheim, Sask. He is mourned by Mary; children Dave (Doris), Gary, Debbie (Howard) Shemilt, Daryl (Pat); 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 3 siblings. The funeral was July 25 at Waldheim MB Church.
Helen Schroeder
Helen Schroeder died Oct. 15, 2007. She was born Nov. 13, 1926 in Damascus, Ohio to Ralph and Nellie Steer. She married George Schroeder and they served as missionaries at Ilorin Bible College in Nigeria for 30 years. Her ministries were coordinating a regional Christian film library and teaching English, music, and choirs where she excelled at accompaniment. She is mourned by George; siblings Dorothy (Kenneth) Cobbs and Don (Sandy). The funeral was Oct. 20 at Steinbach (Man.) MB Church.
Rudy Wall
Rudy Wall died Oct. 12, 2007 after a battle with cancer. He was born July 24, 1946 in Coaldale, Alta. to Jacob C. and Margaret Wall. He helped on the family farm, and attended Lethbridge College. In 1967, he took over the farm upon his father’s death, and also married Lois. Rudy was a strong advocate for farmers as part of the Alberta Sugar Beet Growers Board, and later became a real estate agent. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, and riding horses with his wife and friends. He is mourned by Lois; son Brandon; sisters Erika Lyon, Lora Seabrook, and Joan (John) Martens. The memorial service was Oct. 18 at Coaldale MB Church.
Maria Wolff
Maria (Gossen) Wolff died Sept. 25, 2007. She was born July 26, 1923 in Kronberg, Russia and was separated from her family during WWII and sent to work in Germany. She fled to Paraguay where she was baptized at age 24 upon her confession of faith and married Abram Wolff in 1952. After living in Friesland for 15 years, they moved to B.C., attending King Road MB and Clearbrook MB Church. Maria enjoyed singing and company, and cooked many wonderful meals for family and friends. She is mourned by Abram; children Hugo (Ruth), Erika (Ed) Wiens, Walter (Warna), Monika (Hartmut) Penner, and Irene Regehr; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Sept. 28 at Clearbrook MB Church.
Jacob Voth
Jacob Voth died Oct. 2, 2007 from cancer. He was born Mar. 28, 1924 in Friedensfeld, Ukraine to Jakob Peter and Maria Voth. As a teen, his parents were deported, but he managed to escape to Germany, coming to Canada in 1947. Jacob worked in a logging camp in Ontario and moved to Coaldale, Alta., where he married Margareta (Rita) Sudermann. He worked in concrete for 30 years. In retirement, everyone was amazed at how he could make needlepoint pictures with such big hands. Predeceased by 4 siblings, he is mourned by Rita; son Jake (Eileen); 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 1 brother. The funeral was Oct. 6 at Coaldale MB Church.
