CMU and MBBS graduations

Previous | Next

On April 22, 53 graduates received degrees from Canadian Mennonite University, Winnipeg. Among degrees awarded in arts, music, biblical studies, church ministries, and theology were two first-ever degrees in music therapy to Lora Braun and Lisa Solnik. (CMU is the only university on the prairies to offer music therapy.) As well, two students received certificates in biblical and theological studies.

Commencement speaker Dr. Henry Janzen, research scientist with the Environmental Health Program of Agriculture Canada, urged the graduates to “be planters of hope.” As for where to plant, he told them to “listen for what excites and enthralls you. These strivings, unrelenting, may be the voice divine. . . . God is the creator of extravagance and would not disguise his will in drudgery.”

This spring MB Biblical Seminary presented degrees to 48 students at its 3 campuses. Two students from the Winnipeg Centre for Ministry Studies received their Certificate in Christian Ministry April 22 during a joint ceremony with graduates of Canadian Mennonite University. The Langley, B.C. campus graduated 15 students during their ceremony April 21. Daniel Beutler, presently serving at Linden (Alta.) MB Church, was the first MBBS graduate to receive the Doctorate of Ministry degree. The Fresno, Cal. graduation ceremonies (pictured) were held April 29. Dr. John E. Toews, MBBS professor and academic dean emeritus, gave the commencement address.
