MB leaders in Angola reconcile

Previous | Next

The general assembly of the Mennonite Brethren Evangelical Church of Angola (IEIMA), which met Dec. 3–7, 2006, reached reconciliation between its leaders.

General secretary and legal representative Segueira Luzembo, evangelist Jose Ngola, and administrative and financial secretary Antonio Panzo, all elected in 2000, have worked separately for two years, but reconciled Dec. 7.

On Sunday, Dec. 17, a Day of Reconciliation and Joy was celebrated by church members in all five Angolan provinces. In Luanda, a worship celebration took place in the Getsemane parish, with the three reconciled leaders putting an end to the conflict that had weakened the church.

The leaders intend to work together this year, and in Dec. 2007 the general assembly will vote to elect a new general secretary, evangelist, and financier to direct IEIMA.

The Angolan MB Conference invites other Mennonite Brethren to rejoice with them in this good news and to continue to pray for them as a new chapter opens.
