CNN’s financial advisor Gerri Willis was offering his top five tips for money management and planning. Midway through the interview, the host asked, “What about charitable donations? Does it make sense to review our giving at this time of year?” Without blinking, Willis replied, “Remember, your Number 1 charity is YOU. Before you do anything else, look after yourself and your future.” How at odds with the words of Jesus: “Only people who have no God think like that. As for you, your primary investment and first priority should be God’s work in the world, what God is doing to set people right. As to the future – what you will eat, drink, or wear – don’t you think you can trust God for all these things?” (my own rough version of Matthew 6:31–33). Makes you think, doesn’t it? —from “Footnotes,” in the bulletin of Fort Garry MB Church, Winnipeg, by pastor John Unger
