Paul Behnke of Glencairn MB Church, Kitchener, Ont. was nominated for a Shai award in Children’s Album of the year for his “Happy Hands, Happy Feet” CD. The awards will be presented January 25 in Edmonton.

The Nativity Story opened to mediocre reviews and a disappointing box office in December. The film was heavily promoted in the Christian community and Marty Bowen, its producer, blamed Christians for not showing up to support it. People complain that Hollywood has “lost touch,” but when a major studio produces what the audience says it wants, he said, there isn’t “that sense of urgency” to go see it. Critics, however, said it comes down to “quality” and that the film was “stilted” and “dull.”

The history of European Mennonite churches, Testing Faith and Tradition, has been released as part of Mennonite World Conference’s Global Mennonite History Series. Although much has been written about the beginning of these fellowships, less has been available about the years that followed. The Umsiedler, with their sheer numbers and religious vigour, are a current force included in this ongoing story. Co-editors of this volume are Hanspeter Jecker of Switzerland and Alle G. Hoekema of The Netherlands.
