The editorial council of the Believers Church Bible Commentary series has appointed Loren L. Johns as New Testament editor, beginning July 1, 2007 when he completes his work as dean at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Ind. Current editor Gordon Zerbe asked to be relieved of the position when he was appointed academic dean of Canadian Mennonite University. Johns is known for his work on the Dead Sea Scrolls Project and studies in the Gospel of John and Revelation.

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank has started a blogOutside link for “reflecting on the work of ending hunger.” The online journal will be used by a variety of people involved in hunger-related issues.

Three books by faculty members of Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary were recently released: Preaching Biblical Sermons: Three Contemporary Strategies by Raymond Bystrom (Kindred), Proclaiming the Scandal of the Cross: Contemporary Images of the Atonement by Mark Baker and 17 others (Baker), and God is One and God is Fair by Jon Isaak. (Reviews to follow in later Heralds.)

A children’s cookbook (by Mark Beach and Julie Kauffman) as well as a 6-session adult study guide (by Rachel Miller-Moreland) to complement the alternative cookbook, Simply in Season, were released this fall by Herald Press. The children’s cookbook “invites kids to get in touch with real food, to see where it comes from, to take responsibility for preparing it, and to have fun in the process.”

Sandra Reimer of Kitchener, Ont. is the new managing director of The Word Guild (TWG), responsible for internal operations and fundraising. She is a freelance writer and attends Glencairn MB Church. TWG connects, develops, and promotes Canadian writers and editors who are Christian.
