A special send-off

Previous | Next

One recent Sunday morning at Central Heights MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C., retired missionary Betty Eichhorst shared with her adult Bible class her plans to return to Burkina Faso. She requested prayer for funds of $500 for a projector to show the Jesus film and a further $500 for special equipment to hook up to the projector.

Tony, the group leader, was about to pass the collection plate for donations when Kathy raised her hand and asked for permission to speak. Since she had also been on numerous mission trips, some class members may have expected to hear of some other acute need.

But Kathy told the class she had recently received a gift of $500 to be used for special needs in Africa and was prepared to donate this money immediately.

No sooner had she returned to her seat when Lloyd stood and said he felt God speaking to him. He wanted to match Kathy’s gift of $500.

And how did Kathy, a long-time widow, acquire the $500? She had been at her niece’s wedding, where the bride’s shoe was passed around during the reception to collect donations for the honeymoon. Aware of Kathy’s passion for Africa, the young couple decided to give her the money for any special project.

Truly a modern-day miracle! God is so good.

On the following Sunday a basket was placed on the table, and another $700 was donated. It was a very special send-off for Betty Eichhorst, who was leaving that week.
