Jacob Voth
Jacob Voth died Sept. 16 at age 80. He was born Mar. 17, 1926 in Gretna, Man. to Jacob and Sara Voth. Jacob lived in Winnipeg, Man.; British Columbia; and most recently in Steinbach, Man. Predeceased by 1 brother, Jacob is mourned by sisters Olga Neufeld, Neta (David) Pauls, Justina (Arthur) Dyck, and Esther (Ian) Oliver; brothers David, Cornelius (Helga), Harold (Joyce), Arnold (Sue), and Alvin. The funeral was Sept. 22 at Steinbach MB Church.
Agatha Esau

Agatha Esau died Oct. 2. She was born Jan. 13, 1914 in Vinita, Okla. to Dietrich K. and Sara Esau. The family lived in Fairview, Okla., Gladys, Alta., and Swalwell, Alta. Agatha attended Coaldale (Alta.) Bible School, took a correspondence course in nursing, and attended business school in Calgary. She worked at a variety of jobs, including running a birthing home, operating a coffee shop, and working as a domestic, receptionist, and bookkeeper. She also completed a 3-year assignment with MCC in Jordan. Upon retirement, she moved to Linden, Alta. The church was an integral part of Agatha’s life. She served the Lord through teaching Sunday school, working in the library, and being part of the quilting group. Agatha enjoyed painting, gardening, and volunteering at the MCC thrift store, and was a binding force in her large extended family. She was strong-minded, loving, quirky, faithful, creative, and humorous with strong roots in the earth, her family, and her faith. Predeceased by 8 sisters; 3 brothers; Agatha is mourned by brother Henry; sister Clara; many nieces and nephews. The funeral was Oct. 6 at Linden MB Church.
Grace Buhler
Grace Ruby Buhler died Oct. 25 after a lengthy illness. She was born Mar. 24, 1927 to Bill and Elizabeth Fehdrau. She grew up in Langham, Sask. Grace accepted the Lord as her Saviour in her late teens at an evangelistic meeting. She was baptized on the confession of her faith in 1950 and joined Dalmeny (Sask.) MB Church. She taught Sunday school for 11 years and was part of a Bible study group. Grace married Sam J. Buhler Sept. 27, 1949. They experienced sadness when their only child, Murray Keith, was stillborn in 1952. Grace was a faithful, hardworking partner with Sam on their farm in Dalmeny. She was an excellent homemaker and cook. Grace loved farm life, enjoyed her flowers, and had a special fondness for cats. Predeceased by Murray Keith; 2 brothers; she is mourned by Sam; sister Delores (Ken) Ratzlaff; 2 sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. The celebration of life service was Oct. 29 at Dalmeny Community Church.
Anne Friesen

Anne Friesen died Sept. 24 after suffering a respiratory illness. She was born Sept. 28, 1924 to Katharina and Cornelius Dyck in Rosenort, Russia. Anne’s childhood story is one of unimaginable loss and hardship. It’s a story of family love and Christian faith, of cunning survival strategies and miracles. During the 1930s and 40s, Anne helped her family escape Stalinist Russia and emigrate from war-torn Europe. She landed in Canada in 1948 and married Peter Friesen in 1949. They raised 4 children, Edith, Victor, Kathie, and Gary. Anne excelled at baking and dressmaking, and helped run her husband’s home construction business in Vancouver. She also found time to travel, play Scrabble, and lead an active social life. Anne and Peter were among the founders of Killarney Park MB Church. After Peter’s death in 2000, Anne moved to Langley, B.C., where she joined North Langley Community Church. Anne graced this earth with courage, intelligence, resourcefulness, chutzpah, faith, and love. She is mourned by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The burial was Sept. 28.
Annie Martens
Annie Martens died Oct. 17 at age 99. She was born Mar. 1907 in Orloff, Russia. She moved to Vancouver from Alberta near the end of WWII, where she lived until moving to Abbotsford approximately 10 years ago. She is mourned by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. The memorial service was Oct. 20 at Clearbrook Road MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C.
Martha Wiens
Martha Wiens died Jan. 3 at age 82. She was born Sept. 5, 1923 in Myrtle, Man. to Wilhelm W. and Agatha Born. Martha was steadfast, faithful, and loving. Predeceased by 10 siblings, Martha is mourned by her beloved husband of 62 years, John M. Wiens; daughter Linda (Randy) Earl; sons John B. (Sharron), Bob (Marlene), and David (Ruth); 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers Abe and Walter; sisters Elsie Neufeld and Tina Hyde. The funeral was Jan. 7 at Westside Community Church, Morden, Man.
Peter Redekop
Peter Redekop died Sept. 26 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 31, 1928 in Hodgeville, Sask. Peter loved to sing and was involved in the Abbotsford (B.C.) Men’s Choir for a number of years. He was involved in the local church and particularly enjoyed his care group. He will be remembered for his faith and his desire that everyone know the Saviour’s love. Peter is mourned by his wife of 52 years, Nettie; children Linda Grant, Bill (Angela), Dan (Donna), Bob (Brenda), Jean (Dale Friesen), Andrea Dan, and Tim; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 1 sister.
William A. (Bill) Wiebe

William A. (Bill) Wiebe died Aug. 19 after a brief illness. He was born Mar. 21, 1919 in Ufa, Russia to Abram and Maria Wiebe. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925, settling in Saskatoon. Bill made a commitment to follow Christ at 18, and was baptized later that year in the South Saskatchewan River. While working in Ottawa during WWII, Bill met Louise Thiessen and they married in 1944. The couple moved to Abbotsford, B.C. in 1947, where Bill began his long and significant involvement as a teacher and principal at Mennonite Educational Institute. He taught internationally in Nigeria and Singapore. He also taught in public high schools in Aldergrove, B.C. and Abbotsford, and spent a brief time at Trinity Western University. His ability to transmit a love of math and physics was legendary. Bill served as assistant secretary of MB Mission and Service International, travelling the world in support of the work. He also served with Logos Canada, MCC, and The Gleaners. His love for God and the church were the foundation of his life and his deep faith inspired many. Bill loved singing and was an enthusiastic concert goer. He is mourned by Louise; daughters Karen (Bill) Parchomchuk, Phyllis (Len) Redekop, Ellen (Allan Oas), and Audrey (Stan) Loewen; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 4 siblings. The funeral was Sept. 4 at Central Heights Church, Abbotsford.
Jacob Schierling

Jacob Schierling was born in Siberia July 13, 1927 to Jacob and Margrete Schierling. When he was 2, his parents left Russia. His mother and a sister died enroute to Germany. He immigrated to Paraguay with his father, living both in Friesland and the Chaco. Here Jacob gave his life to the Lord and was baptized in the EMB church. Here too he met and married Luise Kliewer June 9, 1948. They first farmed but in 1956 moved to Filadelfia, where Jacob took up work that gave him much joy – working with machines and driving transport truck. Long trips in a pioneering environment often brought him into danger. The family later moved to Canada, where Jacob worked in construction. He helped build King Road MB Church, Abbotsford. Jacob was a man of few words but great faith, willingness to help, dependability, and good humour. He prayed daily for his family. He is mourned by Luise, children Sieglinde (Helmut) Janzen, Irene (Heinz) Harms, Monica (George) Warkentin, Ewald (Viola), and Carol (Glen) Monds; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Sept. 18 at King Road Church.
Katherine Dueck

Katherine Dueck died peacefully Oct. 22. She was born June 11, 1920 in Kistenkej, Russia, to Henry and Katherine Kasper. When she was 5, her family immigrated to Canada. At 7, Katherine accepted Christ as Saviour and at 13 was baptized, joining the Mennonite Brethren church. She married Abram Henry Dueck Nov. 3, 1940. They farmed in Truax, Sask. for 5 years, then moved to Manitoba. After retirement from farming in 1976, Katherine worked as a health care aide. She also cared for Abram during his battle with Alzheimer’s disease, until his death in 1998. The couple raised 5 children and parented 15 foster children. Katherine enjoyed bus tours, reading, stamp collecting, puzzles, crocheting, knitting, and letter writing. Her faith guided her and she had a great love for God’s Word. Katherine taught Sunday school and Bible studies for many years. Predeceased by Abram; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; she is mourned by children Art (Star), Linda (Peter), Bob (Karen), Delvina, and Pam; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother. The funeral was Oct. 26 at Wheatland Chapel, Killarney, Man.
