Personnel changes at Columbia

Previous | Next

Most years bring some changes in personnel, but this one at Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, has more than most.

Three administrators resigned over the early summer: Paul Wartman as president, Walter Bergen in development, and Gerald Dueck in finance.

Wartman is taking time to do some writing and consider further options, Bergen will be pursuing further opportunities in his field as well as farming, and Dueck is returning to the construction industry.

The college board has appointed current vice-president of academics and administration, Ron Penner, as interim president.

After seven years leading Columbia’s adventure-oriented Quest program, Andrew Hayes has resigned to pursue other opportunities. Mike Richardson, who founded the program, and Jeremy Walker, are coming back; they will combine part-time roles to round out the leadership team.

After teaching at Columbia for 10 years, Carey Penner is beginning a PhD program in Counselling Psychology at UBC. Carol Molcar will join faculty for a three-year term appointment in the caregiving/counselling program. She brings strong experience in counselling and theological studies, and has taught at Trinity Western University.
