Columbia Bible College professor Michael Szuk (l) and president emeritus Walter Unger, pictured under their favourite painting of Aslan, both contributed essays to Beyond Aslan: Essays on C.S. Lewis (Burton K. Janes, ed., published by Bridge Logos). Szuk examines Lewis’ view that pain and pleasure are the touchstones of reality. Unger’s chapter, “The Agony and the Ecstasy of C.S. Lewis,” follows through on this theme, showing how it worked itself out in the latter years of Lewis’ life and those of his wife Joy. Unger also contributed a chapter to Being Sick Well: Joyful Living Despite Chronic Illness by Jeffrey H. Boyd, in which he describes his own way of coping and asserts that Christians are defined by their relationship with God, not their disease. “Come to the Table: A Conference on the Arts in Worship” will explore creative ways of worship at Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Abbotsford, May 26–27. Co-sponsored by Columbia Bible College, the conference will feature June Alliman Yoder, Marlene Kropf, and Rebecca Slough, authors of a new book, Preparing Sunday Dinner: A Collaborative Approach to Worship and Preaching. Choice Books, an inter-Anabaptist book evangelism ministry, set a new annual sales record in 2005, with the sale of 4,747,040 books. The long-standing children’s Sunday school publications Story Friends and On the Line will be discontinued, but the Mennonite Publishing Network is incorporating some of their features in Gather ’Round, a Sunday school curriculum beginning fall 2006. The Webawards, which sets web industry benchmarks, invites entries for their faith-based website category. The deadline is May 31. | |||||||
