This fall, 20 Mennonite Brethren congregations in Canada and the U.S. identified 35 student leaders for the Ministry Quest program. These young people attended one of three intense six-day retreats at MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno.
The retreats mark the beginning of a one-year journey that includes two retreats interspersed between mentoring and service opportunities in their home congregations. Rachel Hamm of Steinbach (Man.) MB Church said, “The quiet times alone with God were probably my favourite times of the whole retreat. Life can get so busy sometimes and it’s hard to spend time with the One who is most important, but once you do, it’s so totally worth it.”
Another participant, Zach Hockett of Shafter (Cal.) MB Church, said the retreat made him want to learn more of the Bible. “I am now memorizing Bible verses again,” he said. “I have also started thinking more about God’s specific call on my life, and what he might want me to do.” Participating congregations show their intent to develop young leaders by providing a mentor for each student. Mentors and students meet at least 26 times. In early 2006, Ministry Quest participants who are in the second stage of the program will meet in Langley, B.C. on MB Biblical Seminary’s ACTS campus. Rick Bartlett is director of Ministry Quest. More information for churches and students who want to participate is at ministryquest.com —Ministry Quest release
