Transitions

Several Mennonite Brethren were among the 47 workers at Mennonite Central Committee’s orientation in Akron, Pa. Oct. 18–Nov. 1. Charlene and John Wieler of Winnipeg are serving 3-year terms in South Africa as managers. They are members of Fort Garry MB Church. They have 2 children: Danica, 10, and Erin, 8. Jane Woelk of Winnipeg is serving a 3-year term as coordinator of MCC Manitoba’s Voices for Non-Violence program. She and her husband David attend McIvor Ave. MB Church.

Brian and Becky Wiebe have resigned as church planters at Promontory Community Church in Chilliwack, B.C., effective Jan. 31, 2006, after serving 5 years. They are seeking God’s direction for their next ministry assignment. Promontory has enjoyed steady growth since its launch in 2001.

Ted and Mary Goossen, pictured left with moderator Keith Derksen (l) and treasurer Gord Unger (r) were commissioned as pastor couple of Christian Centre Fellowship in Thompson, Man. on Sept. 25. This marks a return to northern Manitoba; they earlier served at Simonhouse Bible Camp and as pastor of Grace Church, both in Cranberry Portage.

Harry and Margaret Heidebrecht; Rob and Krista Kroeker

Transitions at Richmond Bethel MB Church, Richmond, B.C.: Harry and Margaret Heidebrecht, who retired in 2004 after ministry in Highland MB Church, Calgary, and Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford, are serving the congregation as interim senior pastor. Rob Kroeker is the interim administrative pastor. He is married to Krista, and they have two daughters: Joselyn and Jenavieve. Youth pastor Derian Julihn resigned in early November and is looking for further direction in ministry. He is married to Allison.

Kelvin and Lorinda Block

Sunwest Christian Fellowship, Calgary, bid farewell to 2 pastors and welcomed 1 this year. Del Thiessen, who took a leave of absence from his job as an airline pilot for Air Canada to serve as interim pastor of spiritual formation at SunWest for a year, has returned to the “skies.” Chad Bennett left to pursue work in marketing and communications. Sunwest welcomed Kelvin Block Aug. 1 as pastor of care and community. He has served in pastoral ministry 18 years, the last 13 at Centre Street Church, Calgary. He and Lorinda, a part-time piano teacher, have 4 children: Jacia, Kayla, Daylan and Brayson.

Morris McKenzie began as pastor of Alderbrook Community Church, Abbotsford, B.C. Nov. 13. He has served at 3 B.C. churches during his ministry, most recently at Pacific Community Church in Cloverdale, B.C. He is married to Mary and they have 4 teens.
