Dan Nicholson is the new lead pastor of South Abbotsford MB Church. He has been in pastoral ministry for 31 years, the last 19 as senior pastor at Johnston Heights Evangelical Free Church in Surrey, B.C. Other involvements include serving on the board of governors of Trinity Western University (TWU) and serving as a chaplain to the B.C. Lions football team. He is married to June, a nurse in the Wellness Centre at TWU, and they have 3 grown children.

Tim Bartsch has resigned as youth pastor of Cedar Park Church, after serving since 2001. He and his wife Robin, with children Mattea and Rowan, will be leading a Youth Mission International TREK team to Thailand.

After 9 years as youth pastor at Winkler (Man.) MB Church, Brad Huebert has moved to Calgary, to be youth pastor in Dalhousie Community Church. He and Shauna have three children, Noah, 8, Glory, 5, and Joel, 4.



On August 20, David and Uwiyingoma and Adela Uwimana were commissioned to the pastoral ministry and the International Revival Church was officially launched as a congregation of the Manitoba MB Mission and Church Extension. The church started five years ago as 3 people from Rwanda and Burundi met to pray for the spiritual needs of other immigrants. More than 50 people from 7 African nations now attend. David and Adela, who have four children, pastored several churches in Rwanda before coming to Canada in 2003. They have four children. Elmwood MB Church, Winnipeg, has called Victor Kliewer, who has been their associate pastor for German and caregiving ministries for the past year, as their new senior pastor. Previously he did educational and pastoral work, as well as conference administration with Mennonite Church Canada, in Winnipeg and Leamington. He and Val, a nurse, have 3 adult children.



Glenn Reid is the new pastor of Fairview MB Church in St. Catharines. Mostly recently he has been a church planter in Hamilton, Ont. He has also served as English pastor in the Toronto Korean Community Church and as associate pastor of the Heritage Fellowship Baptist Church in Ancaster, Ont. He has an MDiv. from McMaster University. He is married to Tracy, a nurse, and they have four children: Jared, 9, Meredith, 7, Felicity, 5, and Ethan, 3.

Rick Zwiers is the new full-time pastor of Children’s Ministry at Southridge Community Church, St. Catharines. He has been a teacher, vice-principal and principal in Christian schools in Ontario for 24 years, mainly at John Knox Christian School in Fruitland, Ont. He is a graduate of Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Mich. He is married to Carole, a teacher, and they have three daughters.



Theresa Guderian has begun as three-quarter time worship coordinator at McIvor Ave. MB Church, Winnipeg. She was previously interim associate pastor of worship at Elmwood MB Church, Winnipeg and was pursuing a Bachelor of Church Music degree from Canadian Mennonite University. She is married to Andrew Plett.

Baptisms and new members

  • Lakeview Community Church, Killarney, Man., welcomed 2 new members by baptism Mar. 27. Pictured are pastor Stephan Bauer, Justin Koslowsky and Jake Waldner.
  • Grantham MB Church, St. Catharines, welcomed 11 new members Apr. 3, 8 by baptism and 3 by transfer. Baptized were Tylor Bergman, Amanda Kane, Jason Etherington, Kim Dick, Ben Wall, Bobby Braun, Jonathan Neufeld and Avery Kennedy; transferred in were Greg Hildebrand, Lisa Hildebrand and Alicia Hildebrand.
  • Parliament Community Church, Regina, welcomed 2 new members by baptism May 29. Pictured are Neal Adolph, pastor Jason Unruh, Thomas Gunther and pastor Phil Gunther.
  • Eastview Community Church, Winnipeg, welcomed 4 new members by baptism Dec. 31: Faith Dieleman, Cherie Dittberner, Charlene Hare and Michael Hamm; 12 new members June 5: Stephanie Bergen, Teri-Lynn Dahl, Rosanna Dieleman, Lindsay Doran, Tania Enns, Jordin Kibsey, Nathan Loewen, Steve Moerman, Mark Neufeld, Cory Normand, Scot Taylor, Arianna Tiede; 3 on June 23: Silvia Dyck, Andrea Kramer, Zachary Kramer.
  • Scott St. MB Church, St. Catharines, welcomed 9 new members June 5, 2 by baptism and 7 by transfer. Baptized were August Escorcia and Nelly Escorcia.
  • Christian Fellowship Church, Lucky Lake, Sask. welcomed 2 new members by baptism Mar. 6. Pictured are Jeremy Epp, Matthew Wiens, Kendra Wiens and pastor Wes Schatz.
