Artist Mario Buscio and his wife, Sonia Blanchette, are co-pastors at a French-speaking MB church in Winnipeg, Église communautaire de la rivière-Rouge. They have three children of their own, and also care for Buscio’s sister’s four children. His passion, in addition to pastoring, is painting. He learned to paint and draw from his father and great uncle, both artists, and received his art diploma from College Lionel Groulx, Ste.Thérèse, Quebec. Buscio was a key figure in starting an art gallery for French artists in Manitoba, situated at the old St. Boniface City Hall in Winnipeg. This month the church will start giving free art classes to children in St. Boniface as an outreach program. Several artists from the congregation will join in this ministry.
