MCC Manitoba bikes the Whiteshell

Bearsford Lake, Man.

For the past ten years, cyclists have been donning their cycling gear and travelling one of Manitoba’s most scenic highways in support of MCC. Bike the Whiteshell is a popular summer fundraiser for MCC supporters and bicycle enthusiasts in Manitoba. Most years, organizers have little difficulty filling the available spaces.

Bike the Whiteshell provides another outlet for people to get involved,” says MCC Manitoba Resources Generation coordinator Paul Friesen. “It attracts a wide range of people,” he says, noting that individuals, married couples and families participate.

Participants pay a $35 registration fee and raise a minimum $150 in donations. The 2005 event raised $60,286, or an average of $800 for each of the 74 participants.

All funds go toward overseas developments needs. This year’s efforts will go toward providing clean water for people in Honduras, Brazil and Laos.
