Marie Unruh

Marie Unruh died May 27. She was born Aug. 11, 1907 in Schoenhorst, Chortitza, Ukraine to Anton and Anne Berg. Her mother died in Dec. 1919, 6 weeks after Marie accepted Jesus as personal Saviour. Her father remarried in 1921. She was baptized, joining the MB church in Kalirstarawka. In 1926 the family immigrated to Canada. She worked at the Ninette, Man. TB sanatorium, then studied nursing, graduating in 1937. She married George Schellenberg. They farmed in High Bluff, Man. After 18 years they sold the farm, moving to Headingley, Man. She worked at Deer Lodge Hospital, retiring at 65. George died in 1971. In Sept. 1975 she married Cornelius Unruh. They lived in B.C. He died in 1988. In Dec. 2002 she moved into Tabor Home, Abbotsford. The verse in 2 Corinthians 12:9 was a comfort to her. Predeceased by husbands George and Cornelius, 1 daughter, 1 grandson, she is mourned by sons Garry Schellenberg of Man., David Schellenberg of Alta., Neil Unruh of Sask.; daughters Marianne Wall of Man., Stella Passmore, Betty Wells, Laura Giesbrecht and Tina Hrabovsky of B.C.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 sister. The funeral was June 2 in Clearbrook MB Church, Abbotsford, with Jay Neufeld, Heinz Ratzlaff and Walter Wiens ministering.
Abram J. Klassen

Abram J. Klassen died Apr. 9. He was born Nov. 8, 1917 in Russia to Jacob and Agatha Klassen. The family immigrated to Canada in 1923, living in Brotherfield, Sask., then in Glenbush, Sask. He married Gladys Anne Harms July 4, 1943. He pastored Glenbush MB Church, was school trustee and was involved with the Gideons. After a farming accident, they moved to Saskatoon where he attended university. He taught in Leipzig and Cut Knife, Sask. In North Battleford, Sask., he managed the Canada Farm Labour Pool, retiring in 1986. He was a skilled carpenter and gardener, loved books, poetry, music and art, and after retirement enjoyed cooking, needlework and crafts. He loved his children and grandchildren. He always had time to talk, listen and share stories. Predeceased by 2 sisters and 1 brother, he is mourned by Gladys; daughters Bertha Klassen, Pearl Block, Ruby Klassen-Frison, Carol Klassen, Darlene Klassen; son Tim; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters; 1 brother. The funeral was Apr. 14 in Waldheim (Sask.) MB Church with David Bergen and Clarence Peters ministering.
Isabel Vince
Isabel Vince of Surrey, B.C. died Mar. 10. She was born Mar. 29, 1950. She attracted many people to herself by her acceptance and kindness. She was full of laughter, was a great mom and an encourager. She is mourned by her husband Michael; daughters Heather, Kathleen and Elizabeth.
John Nickel

John Nickel died May 29. He was born Mar. 7, 1921 in Dalmeny, Sask. to Jacob P. and Susannah Nickel. He was fascinated by machinery, was an avid reader of history, sciences and religion and took a course in electronics. He became a Christian in March 1939 and was baptized several years later in the North Saskatchewan River by Henry J. Baerg, joining Dalmeny MB Church. He attended Dalmeny Bible School The family moved to Clearbrook B.C. in 1947, where he worked at seasonal jobs in canneries and at picking fruit and hops. Later he and his sisters were custodians for MEI and Columbia Bible Institute in Abbotsford. He also worked at Sardis army base and Abbotsford air base. He developed an acreage into a raspberry farm, selling it in 1979. In 1972 he married Isabel Petersen. Predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters, he is mourned by Isabel; her daughters Judy and Annette; 1 sister. The funeral was June 3 in Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford, with Ray Harris and Michael Dick ministering.
Jacob P. Klassen

Jacob P. Klassen died June 3. He was born Mar. 16, 1922 to Jacob and Helena Klassen in Glyaden, Siberia. The family immigrated to Holmfield, Man. in 1925, moving to Leamington, Ont. in 1936 and later to Port Rowan, Ont. He quit school to help support the family. He accepted the Lord as a teen, was baptized and joined Port Rowan MB Church. During the war he served as a conscientious objector in a B.C. forestry camp. After the war he worked with MCC, on a ship that supplied mules to the island of Crete. He attended Eden Bible School, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. In 1948 he married Anne Dyck. He sang in the male choir, taught Sunday school, was church librarian and helped Anne with church custodial duties. He farmed and was director on the Ontario Federation of Agriculture Board and the Vegetable Marketing Board. He is mourned by Anne, daughters Diane Talos of Brantford, Ont. and Shirley Born of Port Rowan; son Alan of Port Rowan; 7 grandchildren; 4 brothers; 3 sisters. The funeral was June 8 in Port Rowan MB Church with Sandy Young ministering.
Anna Unger

Anna Unger died Apr. 5. She was born Jan. 16, 1917 to Jacob and Anna Herfort in Gnadenfeld, Molotschna Colony, Ukraine. She married Hermann Dechant. She immigrated to Canada with her children and mother after World War II, living in Gem, Alta. She was baptized, joining Gem MB Church, Aug. 29, 1954. She worked hard irrigating fields to provide for her family. She loved plants and flowers and shared them with others. She married Henry Unger in 1994, moving to Abbotsford. Here she made blankets for MCC, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She joined Clearbrook MB Church. She read the Bible faithfully; favourite passages were John 3:16, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 121:1–4, and others. Predeceased by husbands Hermann and Henry, 2 grandchildren, 1 brother, she is mourned by son Ted Dechant of Abbotsford; daughters Jean Sweetland of Calgary and Sally Pankratz of Gem; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral was in Woodlawn Funeral Home, Abbotsford, with Walter Wiens and Walter Balzer ministering.
Henry H. Janzen
Henry H. Janzen died June 6. He was born Dec. 6, 1921 in Alexanderpol, Memrick, Russia. The family immigrated to the Chaco, Paraguay in 1929. They later moved to Friesland, Paraguay. He learned accounting and started a lumber company. He married Agatha Doerksen. In 1957 they immigrated to Vineland, Ont. where he worked for Bethesda Home. He began Elmwood Kitchens in Niagara-on-the Lake, Ont. in 1973 and Euro-Design Cabinetry in 1985. In 1990 he began a gradual retirement. He lived a loving and God-fearing life. He is mourned by Agatha; daughters Ursula Savoie, Susan Bologna, Margie Penner, Rose Crawford; sons Karl, Wilfred, John; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. The funeral was June 14 in Scott St. MB Church, St. Catharines.
Helena Martens

Helena Martens died Apr. 20. She was born May 11, 1930 to Jacob and Katharine Abrahams. Because of the lack of food, she barely survived infancy. On one occasion her mother shared that she needed lard to make supper. Helena prayed and God sent lard. At that point God became real to her and she accepted Him as her Saviour. She prayed faithfully. When she was 14, her father died. She married Jake Martens in 1956. They lived in northern B.C. She became involved in the Anglican church. She became ill with an intolerance to gluten and prayed for healing but the answer was “My grace is sufficient for you.” She taught Good News Club in the neighbourhood and Sunday school in church. She sewed most of the clothes for her children and later blankets for needy children in other countries. She worked at the MCC thrift store. She is mourned by Jake; sons Ray, Brian, Clarence; daughter Joy; 8 grandchildren; 1 sister; 2 brothers. The funeral was Apr. 25 in Clearbrook MB Church with Heinz Ratzlaff and Paul Walker ministering.
Kathy Hiltz
Kathy Hiltz died May 27. She was born June 14, 1940 to Arthur and Olga Donald. She accepted Christ at 9, holding on to John 3:16. She married Reuben Hiltz May 20, 1961. He died in 1988. She was baptized, joining Glencairn MB Church, Kitchener, Ont. She enjoyed participating in Bible study groups. Her family was dear to her. Predeceased by Reuben, she is mourned by children Bonny Hiltz, Janet Lilley, Doug; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral was June 5 at Ratz Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, with Bill Stubbs ministering.
