Seven baptized in Thailand
Andy and Carmen Owen of Team 2000 in Chonburi, Thailand are praising the Lord for seven people – two men and five women – who professed their faith through baptism May 8. “This news is something we’ve been praying to be able to send out since first stepping foot on Thai soil. Words can’t fully express our gratitude to God to allow us to be a part of such an amazing experience!” Christians and non-Christians gathered at the local reservoir to observe the baptism. Randy Friesen, director of MBMSI, was also present and gave a word of encouragement to the new believers. The team asks for prayer for these seven believers.
In the midst of tragedy
The violent death of a dear friend and camp ministry co-worker of Kevin and Lena Hamm in St. Petersburg, Russia became an opportunity to share Christ. The 20-year-old, who grew up in an orphanage, was found strangled and her passport stolen. The girl’s pastor reported that 40 to 50 students and their teachers attended the funeral. He preached on Psalm 23; some 15 to 20 later prayed to receive Christ.
Other parts of Thailand too!
With all the excitement and activity surrounding Operation Rebuilding Lives in the tsunami-affected region of Thailand, it is easy to forget MBMSI works in three parts of Thailand. In northern Thailand, Thai and Khmu people have been coming to Christ in unprecedented numbers in the past few years. Russell and Elizabeth Schmidt, who served among the Khmu people for six years and then ministered in North America for another six, are back in Thailand. They are hoping to form a church planting team for Hang Dong, a bedroom community for Chiangmai, a city of 1 million people. They envision a centre offering computer training along with Bible and English classes.
