MCC aids Ukraine, again

Previous | Next

A container from Mennonite Central Committee arrived in Donetsk, Ukraine this winter, loaded with clothing, soap, and 4,800 cans of turkey. It went to Donetsk Christian University (DCU) to share with their families in time for the country’s Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. The meat has been given to the school cafeteria to use in meals.

After receiving permission from Ukrainian customs officials, staff and students from Donetsk Christian University (DCU) unloaded the container in less than two hours, singing songs as they worked. “We prayed that God would help our families and He has answered through you,” students wrote in a letter to MCC. “Your act of kindness is a huge blessing for us.”

DCU is one of many recipients of MCC aid in Ukraine. Last year, the value of MCC material resources sent to Ukraine totaled $471,446 Cdn. This accounts for 45,495 pounds of clothing, 17,760 pounds of soap (laundry and bar soap) and 11,327 school, health, sewing and newborn kits, along with shoes, comforters and medical equipment.

MCC was founded in 1920 in order to provide help for the needs of hungry people in this region of the former Soviet Union.
