New finance team leader at MBMSI

Previous | Next

Selwyn Uittenbosch, accountant and business executive, has been tapped as the new finance team leader for Mennonite Brethren Mission and Service International (MBMSI). He will be gathering data and implementing structures to strengthen our financial systems and reporting.

Raised in Montreal, Quebec, the son of a chaplain to seafarers, Uittenbosch is married to Helen and they have four children, ages 15 to 8. He has a BA from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., an MBA from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ont. and is a chartered accountant. Uittenbosch has worked for the last seven years as chief financial officer for a multinational advertising agency. In that role, he chose to work four days a week to allow for intentional time to serve God. As a result, he was active in church leadership and on the core team of a new church plant in Waterloo, Ont.

Hearing Randy Friesen, now director of MBMSI, speak on missions Sunday in his church, he immediately felt a connection to Friesen’s desire for mission service in the world at large. He sensed God’s confirmation that his work with the advertising agency was done, freeing him for this new assignment. He is based in Abbotsford.

On a personal level, Uittenbosch is captivated by radical Christianity – being sold out for God. He cites Psalm 2:8, “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance,” and wants to see cities and nations transformed by the arrival of the Holy Spirit through interceding Christians. He further desires to build a strong family that will serve the Lord.

At MBMS International, he wants to see processes and procedures in place that will keep pace with the changing needs of getting the gospel out to cultures around the world. Uittenbosch says, “Whether processing transactions, or reporting activities, the system should always enhance our primary, shared objective of missions, not hinder it!” He wants to create systems that will be seamless, simple, effective and accurate for missionaries and constituents.
