In Tune with God

Sally Weaver Glick. Faith & Life Resources, 2004. 212 pages.

In Tune with God: the Art of Congregational Discernment provides a biblically sound challenge and practical tools to congregational leaders. Weaver Glick proposes the priority of, and means of, experiencing God beyond the individual and personal level into the corporate and family of faith level. She suggests relationship with God is at the core of congregational discernment. As individuals and congregations, she says, we can find ways to deepen our relationship with God, and to better recognize God’s song and distinguish it from the static around us.

Weaver Glick presents a theologically sound framework as well as practical tips and reflection questions. Also included are simple and creative thematic dialogues for use as sketches in the gathered community and illustrative accounts of congregations dealing with their issues. She is more than a theorist, but also an experienced facilitator of congregational meetings.

This book will benefit those wanting to grow in their understanding of congregational discernment. As the back cover notes, “Good discernment lets God’s song sing through us and shape us, so that we can join in harmoniously, responding to God’s love and mercy.”
