Plans for the third 55+ Retreat for Canadian Mennonite Brethren are well underway. The event will be held Oct. 20–23 at the Hôtel Mont-Gabriel in Ste-Adele, Quebec, a beautiful Laurentian setting 45 minutes north of Montreal. Speakers will be Pierre Gilbert, associate professor of Old Testament studies at MB Biblical Seminary’s Winnipeg campus, and Taka Mukono, dynamic MB church planter from Ottawa.

The theme is “Building Bridges: Your Invitation to an Exceptional Retirement.” As previously, the retreat will feature a full slate of workshops, including resource people like Katie Funk Wiebe and Hank Janzen returning by popular demand. Holda Fast-Redekopp is also returning to lead the worship.

New this year will be Saturday’s all-day tours, with opportunities to experience the heart, culture and history of Montreal. Choices include prayer tours, a service day with an English church plant in Montreal, or tours of city sights.

Besides the usual refreshment and inspiration of the 55+ retreat, the location offers a unique opportunity to connect with MB brothers and sisters of Quebec, says Sharon Johnson, director of Adult Ministry of the Canadian MB Conference, who is heading the planning committee. English and French are equally acceptable for travellers to the region, and the event will offer both languages. Previous 55+ retreats were held in Banff and Canmore, Alta., in 2003 and 2001.

More information will be available in church offices shortly, at the MB Conference website or from Johnson at 888-669-6575. Registration is limited to 250 people.
