After putting in thousands of hours of volunteer work on their new building, the members of Foothills Community Church in Pincher Creek, Alta. were thrilled to mark its completion Oct. 1–3. The celebration included a variety of events.
It began with an open house for seniors from two lodges where the church holds monthly services. Some 80 seniors from Vista Village and Crestview Lodge came for an English High Tea that included music and a PowerPoint presentation of the construction. Oct. 1, some 150 contractors, tradespeople and residents from the church’s immediate new neighbourhood attended a beef barbecue supper and open house. Pastor Ernie Bergen introduced church programs and invited people to attend. A Kids’ Carnival on Oct. 2 featured activities for children while parents were served coffee and dessert. After a chili supper, the Corpus Christi Men’s Chorale from Calgary, under the direction of former Foothills member Dan Bensler, presented a concert. The actual dedication service was Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, following a celebration banquet. Alberta MB Conference minister Merv Boschman gave the message. He and Conference moderator Lorne Willms and pastor Ernie Bergen prayed the prayer of dedication. Former pastors attending were George Reimer, Henry Nikkel, Peter Boschman, Blake Wagner and Leo Siemens. The theme verse for the weekend was “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labour in vain” (Psalm 127:1). Now that the physical building is complete, the congregation looks forward to building Christ’s church in their community. —from report
