New CBC staff (l–r) Gerald Dueck, Walter Bergen, Paul Loewen

Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, has added three experienced leaders to the administration in this past year. Gerald Dueck (BA, CGA) joined the team as vice-president of finance. He brings 27 years of experience in finance.

Walter Bergen (BA, MCS, MDiv) joins the team as vice-president of development. He and his wife Janet served with MCC for 8 years, first as program administrator in the former Soviet Union, and then as director of development in B.C.

Paul Loewen (BRE, BA, MDiv) has spent the last 20 years focused on building, training, and equipping emerging leaders of current culture. After leading young adult ministries for most of that time, Paul and his wife Melanie were instrumental in planting and establishing Alderbrook Community Church in Abbotsford. Loewen joins the team as vice-president for student development.



Doug and Merri Monkemeier began as senior pastor couple of Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship, Coquitlam, B.C. on Sept. 7. Doug earlier pastored a Plymouth Brethren church in B.C. and Evangelical Free churches in Illinois and Washington. He has also taught at Lithuania Christian College. Doug has a D.Min from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Cal. They have 2 grown daughters.



Dwayne and Irma Barkman were recognized Sept. 26 for 15 years of faithful service at West Portal Church, Saskatoon. Ralph Gliege, Saskatchewan conference minister, commented in his message that Dwayne’s “ministry has released people to serve inside and outside of this building” and a short dramatic sketch by Florianne Nickel gently poked fun at Dwayne’s way of preparing by making lists. A PowerPoint presentation showed highlights from their ministry.



Mennonite Central Committee held an orientation in Akron, Pa. for 41 workers recently. Seventeen people are going on overseas assignments; 24 are beginning North American assignments. Donna Sawatzky, Abbotsford, is beginning a two-year assignment as a receptionist in Abbotsford. She is a member of South Abbotsford MB Church.

Monty and Carolyn Scott have resigned as pastor couple at Sonrise Christian Fellowship, Penticton, B.C. As of October 15, Jeremy and Jackie Kliever are sharing the responsibilities on an interim basis. Both Jeremy and Jackie are graduates of Bethany College. They have 1 son, Elijah, 2.



Noel and Melanie Hudson were installed as youth pastor couple in Elm Creek, Man. Sept. 26. Conference minister Herb Kopp ministered and a prayer time for them followed. Pictured (l–r) are pastor John Willems, Noel Hudson holding Isabella, Melanie Hudson, Herb Kopp.



Rebecca Harms was commissioned for a second term of service with Youth with a Mission to Kyrgystan on Oct. 31 by Justice (Man.) MB Church. Prayers of commitment were given by Ron Dick and pastor Gerry Harms. She will be in Kyrgystan for one year.

West Portal Church, Saskatoon, has appointed Dave Berg as part-time small groups’ minister. He has a BA degree in pastoral ministry from Bethany College and is studying part-time at University of Saskatchewan. He and his wife Melanie have a daughter Mikayla, 1. Kelly Wiebe, formerly in charge of small groups, is now ministry coordinator. He and his wife Sandie have 2 sons, Bradyn, 11, and Levi, 7.

Ron and Gladys Medwid have resigned as pastor couple of Warman (Sask.) MB Church. No future plans have been announced.

Daniel and Kathy Stobbe were commissioned as senior pastor couple in Northwest Community Church, Meadow Lake, Sask. Sept. 19. Conference minister Ralph Gliege led the commissioning service.
