Annie Rempel

Annie Rempel

Annie Rempel died Oct. 30. She was born Jan. 18, 1922 to Peter and Sara Martens in Landskrone, Russia. The family immigrated in 1926 to Sterling, Alta., then moving to Namaka, Alta., and to Ontario in 1938. She was baptized, joining Virgil (Ont.) MB Church. She worked for Lightning Fastener in St. Catharines. She married Ernst Rempel Feb. 15, 1975. Predeceased by 1 brother, she is mourned by Ernst, brothers Erwin and Rudy; sister Loretta. The funeral was Nov. 2 in Cornerstone Community Church, Virgil, with George Wichert ministering.

Mary Kaethler

Mary Kaethler

Mary Kaethler died Oct. 14. She was born in Orloff, Russia July 29, 1914 to Johann and Katharina Dick. The family immigrated to Canada in 1924, settling in Leamington, Ont., and later moving to Vineland and Virgil. She married Jacob Kaethler June 4, 1939. They bought her parents’ farm in Virgil. They joined Virgil MB Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir. Jacob died in 1997. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and watching the birds. Predeceased by Jacob, she is mourned by family and friends. The funeral was Oct. 18 in Oakview Chapel, Pleasant Manor, Virgil with Walter Bergmann and Vic Loewen ministering.

Holdina Voth

Holdina Voth

Holdina Ruth Voth died Oct. 24. She was born June 16, 1924 in Neu Samara, Russia. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925, settling in Springstein, Man. She stayed home, helping her parents raise their children. She accepted the Lord and was baptized, joining Springstein MB Church. She attended Winkler (Man.) Bible School, then worked there as matron, housekeeper, cook, counsellor and friend. The family moved to Ontario. She cared for her parents. She taught Sunday school at Niagara Fellowship Chapel, Niagara-on-the-Lake. In 1998 she moved to an apartment at Tabor Manor, St. Catharines. She enjoyed making new friends. She sent cards and letters to many friends. Predeceased by brother Alvin, she is mourned by brothers Walter and Toby, Winnipeg; John, Ontario; sisters Herta Voth, Susanna Wiebe, Manitoba; Erna Falk, Edith Wichert, Kae Froese, Ontario. The funeral was Oct. 27 in Cornerstone Community Church, Virgil, Ont., with George Wichert ministering.

Alan Peter Thiessen

Alan Peter Thiessen

Alan Peter Thiessen died Nov. 2 at age 48. He owned Thiessen Services in Salmon Valley, B.C. He was a testament of the Lord’s goodness. His desire was that God would be glorified in his life and death. Predeceased by his father John, 2 brothers, he is mourned by his wife Deanne; children Jesh, Heidi, Kari and Jaydon; his mother Elfie; 3 sisters; 4 brothers. The funeral was Nov. 6 in Armstrong (B.C.) Bible Chapel.

John Ratzlaff

John Ratzlaff died Oct. 15. He was born July 8, 1928 in Gnadenheim, South Russia to John and Elizabeth Ratzlaff. They immigrated to the Brandon, Man. area, moving to Yarrow, B.C. in 1936. He accepted the Lord at 19. He was baptized in 1947, joining Yarrow MB Church. He attended the University of B.C. He married Selma Fast June 18, 1950. He taught in Whitehorse, Yk, Salmon Arm, B.C., Chilliwack, B.C. and Sardis, B.C. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking. He is mourned by Selma, daughters Judy Becker, Abbotsford and Shirley Drisdelle, Williams Lake, B.C.; 4 brothers; 2 sisters. The funeral was Oct. 26 in Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford, with Ray Harris and Garry Schmidt ministering.

Nick Reimer

Nick Reimer died Oct. 7. He was born July 17, 1926 in Davidson, Sask., to Nickolai and Sara Reimer. The family moved to Yarrow, B.C. in 1928. His father started a nursery. Nick left school at 15 to help him. He attended Elim Bible School, Yarrow, during the winters. He was baptized in 1947, joining Yarrow MB Church. He married Erna Bartsch May 20, 1951. They moved to Mt. Lehman, B.C. in 1980, joining Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford. He loved music, singing in choirs and attending concerts. Predeceased by daughter Sylvia, he is mourned by Erna; daughters Madelyn Friesen, Lydia Altenmueller; sons Paul and Albert; 4 sisters. The funeral was Oct. 13 in Bakerview MB Church with David Ewert, Michael Dick and Hans Kasdorf ministering.

Erna Guenther

Erna Guenther

Erna Guenther died Sept. 5. She was born May 21, 1910 to J.B. Hooges in Plum Coulee, Man. Her parents ran the Old Folks Home and a boys’ dormitory. She married Jacob A. Guenther Oct. 31, 1928. They had several family businesses, the final one being Hooge Cleaners. They were members of Winkler MB Church and served on many committees. Their faith in Jesus Christ was important to them. She was often ill. She loved music, singing in choirs and groups. She enjoyed reading. She was creative and loved decorating her home, particularly for Christmas. She was a skilful seamstress and taught sewing in the Winkler high school. During retirement they travelled to Desert Hot Springs, Cal., Florida, Mexico, Hawaii and Europe. They moved to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, Winnipeg. She was predeceased by Jake and son Morley. She is mourned by family and friends.

Lory Ewert

Lory Ewert

Lory Ewert died Oct. 2. She was born Aug. 31, 1925 in Herbert, Sask. to Henry and Anna Pauls. They moved to a farm at McMahon, Sask. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour in her youth. She was baptized, joining Reinfeld (Sask.) MB Church. The family moved to B.C. in 1943. She took teacher’s training. She married Aron Ewert in 1945. Aron died in 1957. She taught until she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She lived in the extended care unit of Chilliwack (B.C.) Hospital. Predeceased by Aron, 1 sister and 2 brothers, she is mourned by sons Gerald, Edwin and Larry; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; 2 brothers. The funeral was Oct. 8 at Glad Tidings Tabernacle, Chilliwack with Lorne Lueck ministering.

Walter Regehr

Walter Regehr

Walt Regehr died Sept. 28 after a long struggle with cancer. He was born Apr. 16, 1943 in Yarrow, B.C. He was kind and compassionate and strove for integrity and honesty in all he did. He loved to be with people, engaging in conversation with those he met. He was a doctor in Edmonton. He enjoyed cross-country skiing, walking his dog, riding his bike, baking bread, reading novels, e-mailing his friends and spending time with his family. His lifelong faith, love of Scripture and Christian community, particularly in Lendrum MB Church, gave him strength. He is mourned by his wife Marlene; son Cameron; daughter Leanne; 2 sisters; 1 brother.

Elizabeth (Liese) Krueger

Elizabeth (Liese) Krueger

Liese Krueger died Oct. 27. She was born Dec. 1, 1908 in Talma, South Russia to Heinrick and Anna Sukkau. The family immigrated to Canada when she was a teenager, settling in Ontario, then moving to Arnaud, Man. She taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She married Dietrich (Dick) Krueger in 1932. They lived in Brandon, Man. They bought a farm near Douglas, Man. In 1991 they retired to Brandon. She was a faithful member of Justice MB Church. She was a good friend and hostess. Predeceased by Dick in 1998, she is mourned by daughter Lillian and son Harry.

Elizabeth (Liz) Dyck

Elizabeth (Liz) Dyck

Elizabeth (Liz) Dyck died in 2004. She was born Sept. 10, 1932 to Henry J. and Elizabeth Dyck. She attended Winkler (Man.) MB Church. She was a real tomboy and an avid reader. She suffered a nervous breakdown and depression in her 20s, but recovered. She loved music, listening to tapes and CDs. She did needlework, liquid embroidery and other handicrafts. She enjoyed playing games and doing jigsaw puzzles. She doted on her nieces and nephews. She was a good gardener, winning 4-H ribbons as a teen. In later years she got around on her bike or scooter. She loved the Lord and people. She is mourned by sisters Ann Klassen, Winkler and Gloria Cooney, Bath, Ont.; brother Frank, High River, Alta.; nieces and nephews. The funeral was in Winkler MB Church with James Peters and Gary Loewen ministering.

Wayne Helmer Schmidt

Wayne Helmer Schmidt

Wayne Schmidt died Sept. 28. He was born Mar. 16, 1945 in Waldheim, Sask. to Jacob and Annie Schmidt. The family moved to Saskatoon. He was baptized Aug. 31, 1958, joining Brotherfield (Sask.) MB Church. He taught Sunday school all his life. He led trail rides at Redberry Bible Camp and served on boards of the provincial and national MB conferences. He was moderator at Christian Fellowship Church, Lanigan. He attended Bethany Bible School, then University of Saskatchewan. He married Wanda Dick Aug. 20, 1965. He taught junior high in Prince Albert, Sask. for 1 year, then returned to university. He taught in Saskatoon, then moved to Lanigan School District where he taught for 29 years and served as music consultant. He formed and directed school, church and community choirs. He sang in groups and in duets with his wife. He taught guitar and ukulele lessons. He helped organize the Lanigan and District Music Festival and the Lanigan and District Arts Council that brought renowned artists to the community. He enjoyed woodworking and landscaping. He was concerned for the spiritual wellness of his family and took pride in his children. He is mourned by Wanda, daughter Dorinda Sikorsky; son Trevor; 2 granddaughters; 1 brother; 2 sisters. The funeral was Oct. 2 in Lanigan Community Hall with Steve White ministering.
