Eric Friesen began as associate pastor for youth at North Kildonan MB Church, Winnipeg Sept. 21. He has previously been youth pastor at Elim Chapel, Winnipeg, and at Steinbach (Man.) Chortitzer Mennonite Church. He has an MA in Educational Ministries from Providence Theological Seminary, Otterburne, Man., and a BA in youth leadership from Providence College. He is married to Mindi; they have 3 children, Ariel (8), Corban (4), and Levi (3).

Foothills Community Church, Pincher Creek, Alta., gathered for their first service in their new building Sept. 26. Opening celebrations were Oct. 1–3. David Willms and Herman Borne directed the construction project.



Mark Friesen was commissioned as associate pastor of community development at Summerside Community Church, Edmonton on Sept. 18, with Merv Boschman ministering. A graduate of Columbia Bible College, Abbotsford, he has worked on an MTS degree through MB Biblical Seminary, ACTS, Langley, B.C. He previously served at Cedar Park Church, Delta, B.C. for 3 years. Mark and Rachel have 3 children, Janessa (5), Micah (3) and Mikaela (2).

South Abbotsford MB Church, Abbotsford, is embracing change this fall as they bid farewell to senior pastor Steve Berg, who will be the B.C. MB Conference minister, and welcome four new staff, all chosen from within the congregation:


  • Andrew Stanley, new pastor of worship arts, has been active as worship leader in the congregation for 2 years; he previously served 3 1/2 years as director of Youth Mission International. He and Rebecca have 3 children, Hannah (6), Faith (4) and Micah (nearly 2).

  • Scott Tolhurst is pastor of adult ministries. He has years of pastoral and leadership experience. He and Miriam have 2 married children and 2 grandchildren.

  • Lorraine Isaak, a member of South Abbotsford Church for more than 20 years, is half-time pastor of women’s ministries. She and Don have 3 grown children and grandchildren.

  • Chia Ashton, sports ministry director for 2 years, is continuing that role half-time and will be half-time pastor of junior high ministries. He and Jeanie have one son, Tyson (1).
