Rescue in the Mayan Jungle

Karla Warkentin. Cook Publishing Co. FaithKidz Imprint. 144 pages.

Children interested in time travel stories are sure to enjoy the new series by Karla Warkentin. The Morden, Man. author, a member of Westside Community Church, has begun a series of children’s books, Time-Stone Travelers Series, for ages 9 and up. The stories are centred around Jesus’ words from Matthew 22: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart. . . . Love your neighbour as yourself.” The first in the series, Rescue in the Mayan Jungle, takes siblings Josh, Will and Ellen, via a magic stone, to a different time and place where they rescue a young girl from being used as a sacrifice and tell a young boy about God’s love.

Three more books are in the works, with 6 more to come in the next year. A faith-building guide is appended. Cook Publishing Co. has also announced that a vacation Bible school curriculum will be developed from the series.
