Ellen Buttery
Ellen Buttery died July 24. She was born Mar. 3, 1958 to Ronald and Josephine Brouwer in Holland, and came to Canada as a child. She married Mark Buttery in 1989. While watching a Donut Man video with her daughters she realized her need of a Saviour and accepted Christ. The family attended Glencairn MB Church, Kitchener, Ont. Her favourite verse was Isaiah 41:10, and she enjoyed hearing the song “Because of You.” She loved her daughters and enjoyed doing crafts with them. Predeceased by her mother, she is mourned by Mark, daughters Melani and Madison; her father; 1 brother; 1 sister. The funeral was July 27 at E.R. Good Funeral Home, Waterloo.
John B. Reimer

John B. Reimer died July 8. He was born Dec. 5, 1906 to Bernhard and Katherina Reimer in Russia. When he was 15 his parents and 1 sister died. He immigrated to Alberta with 2 sisters and 1 brother in 1925. He married Anna Riediger in 1929. In 1933 they moved to Vauxhall. He became at Christian at age 12 and later was baptized and joined the MB church. He was a founding member of Vauxhall MB Church. His motto was “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” In spite of hard work and responsibilities, he always found time for church involvement. Anna died in 1978. He married Helen Eitzen in 1980. They lived in Linden, Alta. Helen died in 1998 and he moved into Sunny South Lodge, Coaldale, Alta. Predeceased by Anna and Helen, he is mourned by sons Bernard, John, Abe, Gerhard, Peter, Henry; daughters Elma Kornelson, Martha Wall and Susan Whitlock; 27 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; stepchildren and their families Bill, Denver, Marj Toews, Lydia Chetin, Jean Thiessen. The funeral was in Vauxhall MB Church.
Klara Baier

Klara Baier died July 23. She was born Feb. 5, 1919 to Adolf and Dorothea Kautz in Albota, Bessarabia, Romania. She was baptized as an infant and belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran Confession. She was converted at 16 at a home prayer meeting. She worked as a domestic at age 11. In 1939 the Bessarabian-Germans were brought to Germany and settled on a farm in Wartegau, Poland. They fled to the West when the warfront came closer. She married Ben Baier in 1947. They immigrated to Canada in 1948, settling in Arnold, B.C. They were baptized and joined Arnold MB Church. They moved to Vancouver, joining Vancouver MB Church. They were deacons there and later in Culloden MB Church, Vancouver. She enjoyed hosting friends and family gatherings. They began farming in northern Alberta in 1979. They moved to Clearbrook in 1988, joining King Road MB Church where they again served as deacons. She suffered with osteoporosis and heart failure. Predeceased by 4 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 grandson, she is mourned by Bernhard, son Bernie; daughter Clara Wolff; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; 1 brother. The funeral was July 29 in King Road MB Church.
Wilbert Penner
Wilbert Penner died July 13. He was born Oct. 7, 1915 in Giroux, Man. He studied chiropractic, then served with the Canadian Army for 36 months. He married Alvena Megli in March 1949. He practised in Cardston, Lethbridge and Three Hills, Alta. In 1995 they moved to Linden, Alta. He is mourned by Alvena; daughters Jan Penner, Edmonton; Dorothy Jeffrey, Ponoka, Alta.; Verna Penner, Red Deer, Alta.; 3 grandchildren; 2 brothers; 1 sister. The funeral was July 17 in Linden MB Church.
Agatha Derksen
Agatha Derksen died June 24. She was born Dec. 23, 1925 in Orenburg, Russia to Peter and Helena Riesen. They immigrated to Steinbach, Man. in 1926 and moved to Yarrow B.C. in 1942. She married Peter Derksen Aug. 5, 1945. They lived in Arnold, B.C. In 1962 they moved to Black Creek, B.C. She was an excellent seamstress, a cordial hostess and enjoyed having children around. After a car accident in 1968 she was confined to a wheelchair. In 1972 they moved to Abbotsford. Predeceased by 1 brother, she is mourned by Peter; daughters Judith Hildebrandt, Katherine Campbell and Louise Williams; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 3 sisters; 1 brother. The funeral was June 30 in Central Heights Church, Abbotsford.
Sara Froese
Sara Froese died July 28. She was born Mar. 8, 1924 in Naumovka, Ukraine, and at age 2 came to Manitou, Man. with her family. In 1951 she went to live in Bethesda Home in Vineland, Ont. From 1979 to 1989 she lived with Peter and Susie Enns in St. Catharines. They shared their home and attended to her physical and spiritual well-being. She worked in sheltered workshops, enjoyed swimming, outings and trips west to visit her siblings. She was a member of Grantham MB Church, St. Catharines. In 1986 she moved into Tabor Manor, St. Catharines, and in 1993 to Donwood Manor, Winnipeg. She enjoyed visitors and was grateful for the kind staff. She joined North Kildonan MB Church. Predeceased by 2 sisters and 5 brothers, she is mourned by 2 brothers. The funeral was July 30 in Klassen Funeral Home, Winnipeg.
John W. Schroeder

John W. Schroeder died June 20. He was born to John and Kathryn Schroeder in 1912 in Laird, Sask. His parents separated and he was placed first in an orphanage, then in foster homes. He worked at the Friesen farm in Sommerfeld, Man. He tried to find work in the early 30s by riding the rails. He married Eva Kehler Oct. 29, 1935. They lived with her parents for 5 years. In 1945 the family moved to Aldergrove, B.C. He worked for Buckerfields and Burns Meat Packing. He built a poultry farm. They worked hard to develop the farm. They sold the farm and moved to Clearbrook. He worked as a carpenter. They attended Clearbrook MB Church. He looked after Eva when her health failed. Eva died in 1996. Daughter Doreen became his caregiver. He enjoyed visits with his children and grandchildren, particularly Christmas get-togethers. Predeceased by Eva, he is mourned by Doreen, Eva, Anna, Harold and Ed; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral was June 26 in Clearbrook MB Church.
Jacob H. Quiring

Jacob H. Quiring died July 24. He was born June 10, 1913 in Hepburn, Sask. to Henry C. and Maria Quiring. He accepted the Lord and was baptized as a youth, joining Dalmeny (Sask.) MB Church. He studied at Winkler (Man.) Bible School then taught at Coaldale Bible School from 1936–1939 upon a recommendation from A.H. Unruh. He married Annie Enns June 27, 1937. He taught at Dalmeny Bible School and Winkler Bible School He graduated from Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kan. in 1945. He taught at MB Bible College, Winnipeg for 10 years, then pastored Winkler MB Church for 7 years. He then returned to MBBC, serving as president. He pastored Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford for 9 years. He served 3 years in Austria, then as interim pastor in Killarney Park, Vancouver, and Kelowna (B.C.) MB Church. He served as moderator of the Canadian MB Conference and B.C. MB Conference. He retired in Abbotsford in 1982 after 46 years of public ministry. Predeceased by daughter Linda in 1981, he is mourned by Annie; daughter Lois Wiens; sons Robert and David; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 2 sisters. The funeral was July 28 in Bakerview MB Church.
Henry Reimer

Henry Reimer died June 20. He was born July 12, 1926 in Fuerstenwerder, Molotschna Colony, Ukraine, to Johann and Maria Reimer. The family fled to Poland in Sept. 1943. Henry was drafted into the German army. He was wounded and became a prisoner of war for the remainder of the war. In 1948 the family immigrated to Volendam, Paraguay. He accepted the Lord as his Saviour in 1949, was baptized and joined the MB church. He loved music and served as song leader and choir conductor. He played the violin. In 1957 he married Frieda Rempel. In 1967 they immigrated to Vancouver. He worked for Montalco Kitchen Cabinets until his retirement. They were members of Vancouver MB Church. He was song leader, choir member, transportation committee member and church custodian. In 2002 they moved to Abbotsford, joining Clearbrook MB Church. Here he was song leader and choir member, singing in the German choir on his last Sunday. His servant attitude was a godly example to his family and friends. He was kind, gentle, generous, willing to contribute his handyman skills. He is mourned by Frieda; daughters Eleonore Wall, Washington; Gisela Reimer, Abbotsford; Sylvia Ottom, Aldergrove; Karin Barr, Washington; son John, Langley; 14 grandchildren; 2 brothers; 1 sister; 1 half-sister. The funeral was June 28 in Clearbrook MB Church.
Eleanor Hamm
Eleanor Hamm died Apr. 10. She was born in Tschongrau, Crimea to Gerhardt and Margaret Reimer. The family immigrated to Winkler, Man., where Gerhardt was one of the founders of Winkler Bible School. They moved to Leamington, Ont. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour as a child and was baptized, joining the MB Church. She married Rudy Hamm in 1946. Their home was open to friends and relatives. She was a school teacher and taught piano for 55 years. She prayed regularly for her family. In church she was a music co-ordinator, Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher and pianist. Predeceased by Rudy and 1 brother, she is mourned by daughters Wendy, Joannie, Sharron; son Rick; 1 brother; 11 grandchildren. The funeral was Apr. 13 in Leamington MB Church.
