Family Life Network’s Avante Records was front and centre at the recent VIBE Awards in Toronto. Fresh I.E.’s album Red Letterz, recorded at FLN’s studios, was named Album of the Year in the Rap/HipHop/Dance category, while Malynda Zacharias, wife of Avante Records director, Marshall, performed solo at the event and as back-up to Fresh I.E. Named Artist of the Year and Male Soloist of the Year was Winnipeg’s Steve Bell, while B.C.’s Jill Paquette was named Female Soloist, New Artist and Contemporary/Pop Album of the Year. A new Sunday school curriculum is being developed by Mennonite Publishing Network and will be distributed internationally by Mennonite World Conference. Entitled “Gather ‘Round: Hearing and Sharing God’s Good News,” the material will be released in North America in 2006. The curriculum is a cooperative venture of Church of the Brethren, Mennonite Church Canada and Mennonite Church USA. Project director Anna Speicher says the new curriculum will familiarize children with Bible stories and make Sunday school a time for learning the habits of worship as well as strengthening the partnership between church and home. All age groups will study the same Scriptures each week and the curriculum will provide tips for parents to talk about faith and Scripture with their children.
