Mary Huebert

Mary Huebert

Mary Huebert died May 7. She was born Feb. 7, 1914 in Pleshanoff, Neu Samara, South Russia to Cornelius and Suzanna Matthies. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925, homesteading in Rabbit Lake, Sask. She worked as a cook and housekeeper in homes in Saskatoon, Calgary and Vancouver. She received assurance of faith under the ministry of H. S. Rempel and was baptized in Saskatoon in October 1934. She was part of the fellowship group that preceded the establishment of the first MB church in Saskatoon. She attended Bethany Bible Institute, Hepburn for 2 years. She married John Huebert June 30, 1940. They farmed in Beechy and Waldheim, Sask. In 1964 they moved to Saskatoon, returning to Waldheim in 1984. Mary loved people and was hospitable. She relied on God and served others. She encouraged people and prayed for them. John died in 1994. She moved to Lanigan, Sask. Predeceased by John, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, 1 grandson, she is mourned by sons Alfred, Dennis and Timothy; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters. The funeral was May 12 at Christian Fellowship Church, Lanigan.

Rudy Enns

Rudy Enns

Rudy Enns died May 1. He was born Nov. 1, 1937 to Heinrich and Margaret Enns in Winnipeg. The family moved to the Fraser Valley in B.C. in the 1950s, and later to Vancouver. He accepted Christ as Saviour in 1958 and was baptized in Vancouver MB Church. His life was a testimony of his love for his Saviour. His spiritual life was important and he was confident of his friendship with Jesus. He married Blondie Aug. 13, 1960. He worked in a plywood mill and later in maintenance at Richmond (B.C.) Bethel Church and Richmond Christian School and at Tabor Home, Abbotsford. He loved hosting family and friends at his vacation home at Beachwood. His energy, enthusiasm and friendly nature endeared him to family and friends. He is mourned by Blondie; daughters Teresa, Sharon Cymbaluk, Leslie Heidebrecht; son Robert; 6 grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother. The funeral was May 7 in Ross Road Community Church, Abbotsford.

Nettie Warms

Nettie Warms

Nettie Warms died May 10. She was born Feb. 17, 1919 to Henry and Aganetha Penner in Felsenbach, Ukraine. Her father died when she was 7. The family immigrated to Canada in 1927, settling in Winkler, Man. She worked as a domestic in local homes. She accepted Jesus as Saviour and was baptized, joining Winkler MB Church. She married Albert Warms Sept. 21, 1941. They farmed near Blumenfeld. She was a gifted seamstress and an excellent cook. She enjoyed being part of Ladies Sewing Circle. In 1968 they moved to Winkler. She taught Cradle Roll at Winkler MB Church. She read her Bible faithfully. Predeceased by 2 sons in infancy, 1 grandson, 2 sisters and 1 brother, she is mourned by Albert; sons Bert and Vern; daughter Nettie Dyck; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; 1 brother. The funeral was May 14 in Winkler MB Church.

Katarina (Katie) Ann Falk

Katarina (Katie) Ann Falk

Katie Falk died May 13 at 84. She was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Dolinowka, Russia, to Abram and Helena Dyck. Her father was killed in the revolution before she was born. The family immigrated to Canada in 1924. Her mother remarried. Katie was baptized and joined Mullingar (Sask.) MB Church in 1936. She moved to Yarrow, B.C. in 1938. She married Herman Falk Nov. 7, 1943. They raised their 3 children and cared for 52 foster children. She was active in Yarrow Alliance Church, and in the Yarrow Seniors Club. She loved singing and playing the organ. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking and painting. She belonged to the Widows Helping Others club. She dedicated her life to others and was happy to serve. Her favourite Scripture was John 3:16. Predeceased by Herman in 1981, she is mourned by daughters Shirley Jackson and Irene Jones; son Henry; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. The funeral was in Yarrow.

Henry Voth

Henry Voth

Henry Voth died May 5. He was born Oct. 10, 1913 to Johann and Sarah Voth in Herbert, Sask. He attended Normal school and became a teacher. He was baptized. He married Linda Redekopp Aug. 2, 1936. He graduated from Herbert Bible School in 1945 and MB Bible College, Winnipeg in 1955. He taught in secular and Christian schools and colleges. He was involved with MB conferences. He retired in 1974 and moved to Abbotsford in 1984, joining Clearbrook MB Church where he served in various capacities. His heart was in the church. He was dedicated to learning and the pursuit of excellence. Predeceased by daughter Carol in 1968, he is mourned by Linda; sons Vernon of Albuquerque, N.M., Gordon of Vernon, B.C.; daughter Myrna Goertzen of White Rock, B.C.; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 1 sister.

Andrew Toews

Andrew Toews died May 8. He began teaching at age 17, teaching for 47 years, the last 25 in Terrace, B.C. He was interested in Canadian and Mennonite history, woodworking, gardening and music. He was active in the MB Church, helping to establish the church in Terrace. He was part of the Gideon Society. He was married to Neta Klassen who died in 1996. His family was his primary concern. Predeceased by Neta, daughter Jeannie Voth in 2002, 4 sisters, he is mourned by sons Peter and David; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters. The funeral was in Central Heights Church, Abbotsford.

Louise Duerrstein

Louise Duerrstein died Mar. 20. She was born July 17, 1928 in Altenau, Ukraine to Jacob and Maria Bargen. They immigrated to Germany. She was apprenticed in a store and finished her education. The family immigrated to Canada in 1947, settling in Winnipeg. She accepted the Lord and lived a life of faith. She married Artur Duerrstein Nov. 8, 1952. They farmed in St. Agathe, Man. They moved to Waterloo, Ont. She loved to cook, sew and quilt, making over 200 quilts for the MCC Relief Sale, and family and friends. She taught Sunday school and served as deacon in Kitchener (Ont.) MB Church. Predeceased by Art Mar. 5, 2000, she is mourned by son Henry; daughters Irma and Betty; 6 grandchildren. The funeral was Mar. 25.
