The Mennonite Brethren Historical Commission has appointed Abe Dueck of Winnipeg as its next executive secretary. He comes to the position following 12 years of service as director of the Centre for MB Studies, Winnipeg, and over 20 years as professor and academic dean of the former MB Bible College, Winnipeg. The Historical Commission is responsible for fostering historical understanding and appreciation within the MB Church in the United States and Canada. Previous directors have been J.B. Toews and until recently, Paul Toews.
Harry and Margaret Heidebrecht, senior pastor at Highland MB Church, Calgary, since 1995, will retire July 21. Previously, 1981–1994, he was pastor of Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford. They plan to move to Abbotsford, B.C., where they will pursue other ministry opportunities.
Brent Easey began as part-time associate pastor at Evergreen Heights Christian Fellowship, Simcoe, Ont. on Dec. 1. He has a MTh from Acadia Divinity University in Wolfville, N.S. and has served as lead pastor of Baptist churches. He and Julia have two children: Isaac and Joel.
Ross Road Community Church, Abbotsford, commissioned new senior pastor couple James and Trisha Penner Feb. 15 (pictured above with interim conference minister Robert Friesen and moderator Bill Strom, right). The Penners have 3 young daughters, Breanna, Kendra and Caitlyn. They previously served 8 years at Vanderhoof Christian Fellowship.
Barry and Debra Breker were installed as pastor couple of the Gem (Alta.) MB Church on Feb. 8. The Brekers came from Drake, Sask. where they were involved in business and ministered in various churches in the surrounding area. They have three adult children and one grandchild.
Gerry Goertzen started as Director of Pastoral Care at The Meeting Place, Winnipeg, on Mar. 15. He has an MA in Biblical Counselling and Psychology and previously worked in counselling services with Youth for Christ. He and Dayle have three children: Mark, Shyla and Jesse.
Colin Redekop has been appointed director of worship and music at the Portage Ave. MB Church, Winnipeg. He has degrees from Concord College, University of Winnipeg and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Rob and Myrna Reimer have accepted the call to become senior pastor at Highland MB Church, Calgary. Rob has been pastor of Community Bible Church in Olathe, Kansas since 1996; before that he was youth pastor at Elmwood MB Church, Winnipeg, and director of Winkler (Man.) Bible Camp. He is a graduate of Winkler Bible Institute, University of Winnipeg, and Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary. They have three children, Kara, 14, Shanna, 13, and Joel, 9.
