Ruth Maendel is a professional artist living in Winnipeg. After high school, she attended Capernwray Bible School in England, and then took a Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba, graduating in 2000. “The Wardrobe” (mixed media installation, pictured above, detail on cover) was her thesis project. She has had two solo exhibitions in Winnipeg: at the Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery and most recently at the Main/Access Gallery (Wandering Through the Inside: Interactive Illustrations of Invisible Things). Maendel’s work is strongly rooted in her relationship with Jesus Christ and the Scripture. (Viewers of “Unified,” for example, are invited to reflect on 2 Corinthians 4:6–7 and Isaiah 61:3b.) She is also “fascinated by layers and by many small elements making up something bigger.” She is a member of Westwood Community Church.
