Land for new ministry centre dedicated

Winnipeg, Man.

Previous | Next

Some 110 people braved freezing temperatures, with a wind chill of around –40, January 23 to attend the land dedication service for the new Ministry Centre of the Mennonite Brethren Conference. Board members who were in Winnipeg for the biannual board meetings, and staff of the Canadian and Manitoba Conference offices were part of the celebration. The property, situated in the south of Winnipeg, was deemed the best suited for a new office complex after the current building on Riverton Ave. was purchased by the Manitoba MB Conference.

A bonfire greeted the participants as they arrived, and with prayers, the Scripture, “Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord” recited in all the languages in which our Conference worships, the land was dedicated. Each person threw a stick into the fire to symbolize the growing ministry in Canada. The sign identifying the property as the Ministry Centre was unveiled by moderator Jascha Boge and Board of Management chair Herb Suderman. Tracey Reimer from McIvor Ave. MB Church, Winnipeg, sang “Lord, let your love shine” and everyone joined in singing “O Canada” to signify gratitude for the privilege of living in a country where we can share the gospel with our neighbours. A display of fireworks completed the ceremony, followed by a dinner for board members and staff.
