In this section:Helen LeppHelen Lepp died Jan. 3. She was born June 1, 1914 to Franz and Elizabeth Enns in Russia. They moved to Canada, settling in Winkler, Man. in 1926. Later the family moved to Lena, Man. She worked in Winnipeg. She married Peter Lepp Nov. 17, 1940. They lived in Winnipeg until 1956, when they moved to St. Catharines. Helen worked on farms sorting fruit and at Ina Grafton Home for senior citizens. She was baptized in her youth by her father, who pastored various MB churches in Manitoba. Later she was a charter member of Fairview MB Church, where she served as chairperson of the kitchen. Helen was an excellent homemaker, and enjoyed entertaining, reading, and handwork. Predeceased by an infant son and children Bill, Arnold and Linda, 2 sisters and 2 brothers, she is mourned by Peter, daughter Charlotte Klassen, 2 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 3 sisters. Katherina Wiebe died Jan. 23. She was born Dec. 23, 1907. She married Bernhard Wiebe July 26, 1927. They farmed in southern Manitoba. She was baptized early in her marriage and joined Grossweide MB Church. They retired to Plum Coulee, Man. in 1968. After Bernhard’s death she moved to Lions Manor in Winkler, Man. Tina enjoyed gardening. She was passionate about her faith and caring for her family. Predeceased by Bernhard, 1 infant son and 1 great-grandson, she is mourned by daughter Esther Kasunish; sons John, Arthur, Peter, and David; 4 sisters; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Jan. 27 in Winkler MB Church. Muriel Lucy Ellen Barbour
Muriel Barbour died Jan. 12. She was born Nov. 11, 1911 near South River, Ont. Her family moved to Neville District, Sask. in 1914, where she accepted Christ at 13. She attended Moose Jaw (Sask.) Normal School and began teaching. She married Archie Barbour Aug. 7, 1935 and they settled on Archie’s farm near Pamburn, Sask. They lived in various places in Saskatchewan and Alberta. She taught school in Alberta. She was baptized and joined a Baptist church. After Archie’s death in 1981 she attended Coaldale MB Church. She was active in Bible studies, Sunday school and intercessory prayer, and supported missionaries. She moved into Coaldale in 1990. Predeceased by Archie, she is mourned by daughter Lorene Collins, Sarnia, Ont.; sons Keith, Cochrane, Alta. and Dennis, Coaldale; 9 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Jan. 17 in Coaldale MB Church. Jefferey Alan FoleyJeff Foley died Jan. 12. He was born Aug. 27, 1941 in Toronto. He was baptized at South Langley (B.C.) MB Church Apr. 13, 2003. Although he was part of the fellowship for only a short time, he was loved and appreciated. He is mourned by 5 daughters; 2 stepsons; 15 grandchildren; 2 sisters. The memorial service was Jan. 20 in South Langley MB Church. Anna Paetkau
Anna Paetkau died Dec. 19. She was born Jan. 6, 1922 in Ukraine to John and Helen Penner. She came to Canada in 1948. Her husband was never able to join her in Canada. She worked at Maples Children’s Home and as a cook at Brandon (Man.) Mental Health Centre for 32 years. Predeceased by 1 sister and 2 brothers, she is mourned by son John; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters. The service was Dec. 22 at Brandon Cemetery. Lillian Allert
Lillian Allert died Dec. 27. She was born Apr. 10, 1940 in Wembley, Alta. Later they moved to Yarrow, B.C. Despite ill health she graduated from high school and worked in Vancouver. She had many talents, like computer skills and electrical work. She sewed clothing for her family. She accepted the Lord at 14 and served Him wholeheartedly. She taught Sunday school, worked in the church library, sang in the choir, and memorized many hymns. Later, she spent many hours at home but continued to trust the Lord in her loneliness. Predeceased by 4 sisters and 2 brothers, she is mourned by sisters Katherine and Hilda, Abbotsford; brother Neil; nephews and nieces. The funeral was Jan. 2 in Bakerview MB Church. George Elias
George Elias died Jan. 11. He was born June 12, 1911. Predeceased by his wife Erna, he is mourned by his children and grandchildren. The funeral was Jan. 16 in Winkler (Man.) MB Church. John Waldo Trinke
John Waldo Trinke died Jan. 5. He was born July 29, 1914 to John J. and Margaret Trinke. He grew up on the farm and attended Rosenbach (Man.) School. He accepted Jesus and was baptized in his youth. He married Margaret Born Nov. 14, 1935. He loved farming and worked hard. He served on several community boards. He enjoyed travelling, camping, playing games, and found beauty in all things. He was active in the church. Predeceased by Margaret, 1 brother and 1 great-granddaughter, he is mourned by daughters Marj Dozois, Beatrice Reimer, Phyllis Funk; son John; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 sister. Katharina (Tina) Kroeker died Jan.6. She was born Dec. 17, 1908 to Franz F. and Helena Hubert in Tiegerweide, Siberia. She accepted the Lord after evangelistic meetings with Daniel Braun and Johann Hiebert. The family moved to Canada in 1927, settling in Coaldale, Alta. She worked on the family farm and in Lethbridge (Alta.) Hospital. She attended Coaldale Bible School and joined Coaldale MB Church. She married John Kroeker June 11,1933. They moved to Greendale, B.C. in April 1943 and joined Greendale MB Church. John died in 1973. She enjoyed reading, needlework, playing piano, and quilting for MCC and Red Cross. She was interested in world affairs and cherished family and friends. Predeceased by John, she is mourned by daughters Esther Guenther and Elsie Dyck of Chilliwack, B.C.; son John of Terrace, B.C.; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Edna Annie Kaita
Edna Kaita died Dec. 23. Predeceased by 5 grandchildren, she is mourned by husband Fred; 2 daughters; 2 sons. The funeral was Dec. 29 in Fourth Avenue Bible Church, Niverville, Man. Marion Brigden-EngelMarion Brigden-Engel died Dec. 17. She was born Oct. 3, 1917 in Silton, Sask., to Norman and Margaret Davis. She attended Normal School in Regina and taught at various schools in Sask. She married Bill Brigden Oct. 10, 1942. They lived on the family farm in Kisbey, Sask. After Bill’s death she returned to teaching. She was a member of Eastern Star and active in Rebekah’s Lodge. She moved to Medicine Hat, Alta. and married Ted Engel Sept. 17, 1994. They attended Crestwood MB Church and St. Barnabas Anglican Church together. She was friendly, optimistic and opened her life to others. Predeceased by Bill and 1 grandson, she is mourned by Ted; daughters Lois Beatty, Lynda Haug; sons Allen and Ross; 9 grandchildren; stepdaughter Velma Heebner; stepsons Wayne and Ron Engel; 8 step-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; 1 brother. The funeral was Dec. 22 in Kisbey Recreation Centre. Frieda SchultzFrieda Shultz died Dec. 11. She was born Mar. 14, 1909 in Kornweistheim, Germany to Gottlieb and Pauline Funk. They immigrated to Canada in 1912, living in Steep Rock, Man., then in Herbert, Sask. She married Jacob Schultz Nov. 23, 1930. They farmed near Herbert. She was baptized and joined Herbert MB Church Aug. 25, 1946. Frieda enjoyed knitting, crocheting and attending church until losing her eyesight. Predeceased by Jacob, 2 brothers, she is mourned by sons Firmin and Rudolf of Herbert; 4 sisters. Anita Magdalene Born
Anita Magdalene Born died June 6. She was born Sept. 13, 1946 in Freising, Germany to Anton and Helene Lind. The family emigrated to Canada in 1949, settling in Yarrow, B.C., then in Vancouver. She accepted Christ as a teenager and was baptized in 1966. She married Theodore Peter Rahn in 1967. Peter died in November 1979. She married Alvin Born in 1982, adopting his 2 children. She was outgoing, with a contagious smile. She had a strong faith and worshipped God through music. She was supportive of her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She loved denim. Predeceased by Theodore, she is mourned by Alvin, children Paul Born, Tony Rahnborn, Carla Goertzen and Angela Froese; 7 grandchildren; father; 1 brother; 1 sister. The funeral was June 9 in Chilliwack (B.C.) Alliance Church. Anna BullerAnna Buller (nee Wiens) died Sept. 19. The funeral was at Hope Fellowship Church, Saskatoon. Peter B. Schroeder
Peter B. Schroeder died Dec. 16. He was born Sept. 3, 1905 to Peter and Anna Schroeder in Muensterberg, Molotschna, south Russia. The family moved to Millerovo in 1914 and to Wohldemfurst, Kuban in 1919. He accepted Jesus as Saviour that year and was baptized into the MB Church in 1920. In April 1925 the family immigrated to Canada, settling in Plum Coulee, Man. Peter moved to Winnipeg, then in 1932 settled on a farm in Elm Creek, Man. He married Elisabeth Wall Aug. 6, 1932. They were members of Elm Creek (Man.) MB Church. Peter taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. They retired to Clearbrook, B.C., joining Clearbrook MB Church. He sang in the German choir and served on committees. He had spiritual struggles and agreed with Isaiah 43:24–25. They moved into Menno Home in 1992. In June 1993 Elisabeth died. A special spiritual experience in 1996 gave him great peace and joy. Predeceased by Elisabeth, 1 sister, 2 brothers, he is mourned by sisters Mary Wall, Annie Dick and Martha Hildebrandt of Winnipeg; brothers Henry of Abbotsford and Corny of Winnipeg. The funeral was Dec. 22 in Clearbrook MB Church. Susie BanmanSusie Banman died Dec. 31. She was born Nov. 20, 1914 to Jakob and Susanna Wiebe in Gruenfeld, Siberia. The family immigrated to Canada in January 1926, settling in Yarrow, B.C. She worked in Vancouver, saving her money for a house and a car. She loved people and animals. She had a passion for music, playing guitar, mandolin and piano, and singing with her sisters. She married Henry Banman Oct. 23, 1940. They lived in Abbotsford and were members of Clearbrook MB Church. She was committed to God, church and family. She picked berries with her children. In 1959 they moved to Lardeau, B.C. She started a Sunday school. She started a business, “Susie’s Variety Store” in Kaslo and a recreation centre for youth. She brought many people to God. She supported her children’s musical endeavours. They moved to Abbotsford in 1981. She enjoyed company and ran a bed and breakfast. Bible reading in German and English was important. She had a good sense of humour. She is mourned by Henry; daughter Rose of Richmond, B.C.; sons Jake of Kelowna, B.C.; John of Bonnyville, Alta; Addie of Kamloops, B.C.; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother. The funeral was Jan. 3 in Clearbrook MB Church. William (Bill) Klassen
William (Bill) Klassen died Sept. 14. He was born June 15, 1936 to John C. and Elizabeth Klassen in Crowfoot Alta. His mother died when he was 9. The family moved to Matsqui, B.C. Bill was involved in music in high school and at MB Bible Institute (now CBC). He married Lily Hooge in Aug. 1957. They settled in Vancouver where Bill worked and studied music education at UBC. He taught music in the Surrey School District for over 25 years. He directed choirs at Vancouver MB Church, then Willingdon Church from 1961 to 1994. He encouraged modern church music for youth, directing the first Christian contemporary musical in Vancouver. He also kept the old favourites. His Christmas and Easter productions were known throughout the city. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed camping and driving trips.
