Dove Hits 2003

Reunion Record 2003.

A common adage, “variety is the spice of life,” would hold true for this recording of 15 of the year’s best Dove award nominated artists and songs (Dove Hits 2003). The Dove Awards evening is a prestigious event that honours the best artists in Christian music. This compilation features the top ‘finalists’ in this genre. The album offers an exclusive recording of Friends 2003, which is a multi-artist tribute to Michael W. Smith’s 20 years in the Christian music industry. Produced by Brown Bannister, this track of Michael’s classic, “Friends” features Christian greats such as Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael Tait, Point of Grace, Mac Powell, Anointed, Avalon and Joy Williams. The song has a great new contemporary feel to it.

The other tracks of this CD offer songs that range in style from inspirational and worship tunes, to rock, alternative and contemporary/ pop. Artists include soloists Tim Hughes, Rebecca St. James, Michael W. Smith, Bebo Norman, Joy Williams, Nicole C. Mullen, Mark Schultz; and groups Third Day, Jars of Clay, Audio Adrenaline, Mercy Me, TobyMac, and Point of Grace. The variety included in this recording evoked a host of emotions within me. I was deeply moved at times to worship, encouraged in my faith, prodded to examine myself, and even at times just inspired to praise and be joyful.

In addition to the year’s 15 best nominations, there are 3 bonus tracks of first year nominated artists: Paul Colman Trio, Big Daddy Weave and Daily Planet. Some of the song titles on this project are “40 Days”, “Holy”, “Come Unto Me”, “Spoken For”, “Purified” and “Here I am to Worship”.

Because of its great mix, it will appeal to a broad range of ages and style preferences. It gives you the ‘biggest bang for your buck’, because it allows you to experience a great sampling of the best Christian artists of today, all on one CD. I highly recommend it.
