Cutting the cake at Parkland Community Church’s anniversary celebration, (l–r) pastor Henry Penner, intern pastor Harv Janzen, conference minister Ralph Gliege, and church planter (from 1983) John Wiens

Parkland Community Church in Yorkton, Sask. celebrated its 20th anniversary Sept. 7, 2003. Church planter John Wiens shared his original vision for Yorkton and challenged the congregation to continue reaching out. Yorkton’s mayor Phil de Vos brought greetings. Messages from former pastors Dan Warkentin and John Hiebert were read. The congregation of Gateway Community Church in Canora joined Parkland for the service.

The worship team led in songs that have been congregational favourites over the years. There was also special music, including “Church in the Wildwood” re-written to fit Parkland Community Church.

Saskatchewan MB Conference minister Ralph Gliege gave the message, followed by one of Parkland’s famous potluck dinners and a time of sharing memories. The church’s motto is “Friendly People Who Care.” Parkland’s desire is to be a place for hurting people. It is always amazing whom God brings into the congregation to be loved and cared for.
