William (Bill) Buller

William (Bill) Buller

William (Bill) Buller died Sept. 21. He was born near Ernfold, Sask. Apr. 23, 1916 to John and Maria Buller. At 14 he committed his life to Christ during evangelistic meetings by Rev. Frank Wiens. He was baptized, joining Flowing Well (Sask.) MB Church. He attended Herbert Bible School and Prairie Bible Institute. He served as a conscientious objector during World War II. He married Agatha Dyck of Winkler, Man. Nov. 28, 1943. They settled on the family farm at Ernfold, then moved to a farm at Flowing Well. He became pastor at Flowing Well MB Church in 1946, also attending Briercrest Bible Institute, Caronport, Sask. in 1947–48. In 1962 they moved to Meadow Lake, Sask. where he became pastor of the MB church until 1972. They moved to Herbert, Sask. where he worked at the nursing home as well as at the seniors’ home, retiring in 1981. He moved into the nursing home in July 2000. Bill and Agatha enjoyed travelling, particularly their trips to PEI and Israel. Bill continued to teach Sunday school, lead Bible studies and preach for many years. He was interested in and supported missions. His Bibles were filled with notes and prayer lists. Predeceased by 4 sisters, 1 brother, he is mourned by Agatha; sons Lowell and Marvin; daughter Elaine; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, 1 sister; 1 brother. The funeral was Sept. 25 in Herbert MB Church.

Elizabeth Siemens

Elizabeth Siemens

Elizabeth Siemens died May 31. She was born Aug. 29, 1914 to Peter and Katherine Kornelson in Orenburg, Russia. The family immigrated to Canada in 1926. She accepted the Lord in her youth and was baptized July 25, 1939, joining a church in Coaldale, Alta. She attended Bible school in Coaldale. She married David Siemens Nov. 15, 1947. They settled in Matsqui, B.C. She worked hard on their dairy farm. She sewed for her family, and enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, and tending her flowerbeds. She was known for her cooking and for keeping a neat and tidy home. She was a generous, loving, caring and praying person. They travelled to Europe and spent vacations in Hawaii, Yuma, Ariz. and at the lake. Predeceased by 1 brother, she is mourned by David; daughter Sandra Krause; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; 1 sister. The funeral was June 5 in South Abbotsford MB Church.

Linda Janzen

Linda Janzen

Linda Janzen died Nov. 22. She was born near Winkler, Man. Feb. 8, 1916 to David and Susan Peters. She worked as a farm hand. She married John Janzen Nov. 7, 1937. They moved to Winkler in 1947. She painted the houses that John built. In retirement they travelled, camped and went on fishing trips. She had a quiet faith and was concerned that her family would grow in faith. She was faithful in attending church. Predeceased by John, she is mourned by son Bernie; daughters Elsie Peters and Barb Wiebe; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Nov. 26 in Winkler MB Church.

Jacob J. Redekop

Jacob J. Redekop died June 8. He was born July 18, 1925 to Frank and Katherine Redekop. He grew up in Main Centre, Sask. and attended Herbert (Sask.) Bible School. He married Agnes Nickel June 1, 1950. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He served God in practical ways and was involved in the community. He was a member of Main Centre MB Church, teaching Sunday school and working the sound system. He was a board member of West Bank Bible Camp and helped with MCC Relief sales. They enjoyed travelling, particularly to the West Coast. He suffered a heart attack in 1985 but continued farming. He took up fishing. Agnes died in 1995. He was a man of integrity and grace, had a positive attitude and a sense of humour. Predeceased by Agnes, he is mourned by son Daniel; daughters Betty Plett and Lori Andres; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild. The funeral was June 13 in Herbert MB Church.

Marie Regehr

Marie Regehr (nee Kroeker) died Nov. 18 at the age of 73. She was married to Ed Regehr. She was able to balance raising her family and a career at Shell Oil. She was a great cook, loved to travel and had many friends. She was an active member of Dalhousie Community Church, Calgary, and had a strong Christian faith. Predeceased by son Jim, she is mourned by Ed; son Clint of Dallas, Tex.; daughter Kathy Rhodes of Calgary; 6 grandchildren. The funeral was Nov. 22 in Dalhousie Community Church.

Katherine Loewen

Katherine Loewen

Katherine Loewen died July 18. She was born Sept. 23, 1920 to Jacob and Anna Loewen in Gnadenthal Baratov, south Russia. The family immigrated to Canada in 1925, settling in Killarney, Man. She accepted Christ Dec. 31, 1931, was baptized and joined Holmfield (Man.) MB Church. She attended Winkler Bible School. The family moved to Elm Creek, Man. in 1943. She participated in choir and young people’s activities. When arthritis set in in 1947 she had to curtail her activities. She moved to Winnipeg in 1964. She sewed for others, including camps and people in need. She moved to Donwood South with her mother in 1982. Her mother passed away in 1991. She moved to Donwood Personal Care Home in 2001. She was able to encourage others with a cheery word or prayer. She was a charter member of McIvor Avenue MB Church, Winnipeg. She is mourned by sisters Susie and Anne; brothers Jake, Peter, John and Abe. The funeral was July 22 in McIvor Avenue MB Church.

Menno Klassen

Menno Klassen

Menno Klassen died Oct. 31. He was born Apr. 20, 1912 in Great Deer, Sask., to David D. and Anna Klassen. His father died in 1915. His mother married Heinrich D. Goertz in 1917. He married Elizabeth Thiessen Aug. 2, 1942. They farmed, then moved to New Westminister, B.C. He helped with planting Strawberry Hill (Kennedy Heights) MB Church. He played the steel guitar in a church instrumental ensemble. He worked at Canada Western Cordage, retiring in 1977. They enjoyed travelling, visiting grandchildren and entertaining friends and family. Menno loved carpentry and gardening. They attended Aldergrove (B.C.) MB Church. He looked after Elizabeth after her massive stroke in 1986 until she died in 1998. He lived in Abbotsford where he enjoyed baking, cooking and visiting. He was gentle, and will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit and sense of humour. Predeceased by Elizabeth, 2 brothers, he is mourned by son Dennis, Abbotsford; daughter Darlene Rahn, Centralia, Wash.; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 sisters.

Hans Penner

Hans Penner

Hans Penner died Sept. 20. He was born Nov. 4, 1925 in Silberfeld, Siberia, Russia to Jacob and Katharina Penner. They immigrated to Germany in 1929, then to Paraguay in 1930, settling in Gnadenheim, Fernheim. He accepted Christ. In 1939 the family moved to the Paraguay River where they worshipped with one other Mennonite family. In 1942 he was baptized by Heinrich B. Friesen. The family returned to Fernheim in 1944. Hans became a member of Lichtfelde MB Church. He learned blacksmithing. Hans married Sara Unger Nov. 27, 1948. They moved to Landskrone, Fernheim, then in 1952 to Boquerao, Brazil in 1952. He operated a dairy farm. They moved to Winnipeg December 1963, then to Vancouver, where they joined Vancouver MB Church, then Culloden MB Church. In 1978 they moved to Abbotsford. He retired from construction in 1983. Sara died Feb. 18, 1990. He married Sara Tissen of Germany July 4, 1992. They travelled in their motor home and fished at Barnes Lake. He entered Menno Hospital June 2002. Predeceased by first wife Sara, he is mourned by Sara, daughters Edith Wiens and Marlene Schroeder; sons Sieg, Vern, Wally, Alfred, Wilf, Erhard, Carl, Rick; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; 2 brothers; 3 step-brothers; 3 step-sisters. The funeral was Sept. 25 in Clearbrook MB Church.

Katie Wiensz

Katie Wiensz

Katie Wiensz died Oct. 8. She was born Jan. 27, 1910 in Omsk Post, Siberia, Russia to Franz and Anna Froese. She was unable to have adequate schooling because of the political conditions. In 1924 the family immigrated to Aberdeen, Sask., then to Laird. She accepted Jesus and was baptized June 25, 1925, joining Laird MB Church. The family moved to Mayfair, Sask. She was a housemaid in Saskatoon. She attended Bethany Bible Institute, Hepburn, Sask., for 2 years. She worked as a cook at MB Bible College, Winnipeg. She moved to Vancouver, working in homes and restaurants. She married George Wiensz, a widower from Los Angeles, Cal. Nov. 30, 1961. They worked at the cafeteria at Biola and attended the Church of the Open Door. George died Mar. 21, 1970. She moved to Clearbrook, B.C., working in the kitchen of Columbia Bible College. After retirement she hosted people in her apartment and visited shut-ins and those in hospitals and nursing homes. She mothered her nieces and nephews. She was admitted to Menno Home in December 2002, a challenge to her independent spirit. Predeceased by George, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, she is mourned by brothers Frank and John; stepchildren. The funeral was Oct. 15 in Clearbrook MB Church.
