“Go out where the water is deeper . . . Let down your nets and you will catch many fish . . . Don‘t be afraid! From now on you'll be fishing for people.”

Jesus (Luke 5)

Mennonite Brethren will be gathering at the International Plaza in Toronto, Ontario on July 7–10, 2004 for the Canadian Conference convention. A new format for the 2004 meeting has been adopted. Mornings will be devoted to Conference business sessions as delegates listen to God together to shape Conference ministries. Afternoons will provide special variety packages such as workshops for equipping, focused discussion sessions on critical issues, and tourism and service options in the Toronto area for adults and youth. Evening celebrations will feature recognized and motivational speakers, inspiring worship and fellowship together.

The Planning Team has decided this new format deserves a new name – Gathering – to reflect the changes. According to the Oxford Canadian Dictionary “gather” means to bring or come together from scattered places, and “gathering” means increasing in intensity. Executive Director David Wiebe says, “We want to come together from scattered places and increase in our intensity to worship, to draw close to and to serve God.“

Gathering 2004 with its new name, format and goals is guided by the theme: “Refresh your spirit. Renew your ministry. Reach out to your community.”
