Canadian Christian women of all ages and denominations, serving as volunteers and staff in both the non-profit and business world, are gathering in Toronto February 19–21 for the second national Leading Women Conference. Participants will be invited to explore, develop and celebrate their leadership gifts while establishing significant relationships with others on a similar journey. The timeliness, excellence and focus of the Leading Women Conference have convinced the Canadian MB Conference to partner with ten denominational and ministry organizations. Partnership allows us to shape this event to significantly address a key component of Leadership Development for our denomination. Sharon Johnson, Adult Ministries Director, is the Mennonite Brethren representative in this partnership. In order to allow this conference to have a truly national impact, a number of travel scholarships for MB participants residing outside of Ontario have been allocated from the National Leadership Development Budget. David Wiebe, Executive Director of the Canadian MB Conference, challenges, “The Canadian Conference is leading the way in providing tangible support for women wanting to attend LW 2004, and we invite provinces to follow our example.” Several provincial conferences have already indicated that they will be providing scholarships for this leadership development opportunity. MB participants at LW 2004 will not want to miss the Leading Women MB Dinner, hosted by Sharon during the conference. This will be an opportunity to establish relationships and strategize for continued growth as leaders. Mennonite Brethren congregations across Canada sent 28 women to LW 2002 and many more are anticipated this year. To make reservations for the dinner and/or obtain scholarship applications, contact Sharon or Christine at the Adult Ministries Office: 888-669-6575 x 398. —Adult Ministries news release
