Long-time India churchman dies

Fresno, Calif.

Previous | Next

V.K. Rufus, 60, churchman and Bible college principal in Shamshabad, India, passed away June 7. He was likened to Moses, who led God’s people (the Bible college) through many challenges, but did so with great determination, discipline and strength. The last week of his life the MB Centenary Bible College hosted a “Days of Challenge and Response” attended by approximately 75 young men and women. At the end of this many committed themselves to pursuing full-time ministry. At this time the Bible college also inaugurated a Bachelor of Divinity program. Rufus was a “master builder” – one who built up programs, buildings and peoples’ lives through the Bible college. He was known for his strict discipline as well as his desire to see young people raised up for leadership. He knew almost every one of the 800 churches in the India conference along with its history. Over a thousand people, including prominent Indian MB leaders as well as leaders from other church denominations attended the funeral on June 9. He is survived by his wife Virginia, sons Sukhjeevan and Dennis, and daughter Felicitas.
