New venue for second annual golf tournament

Winnipeg, Man.

Previous | Next

Canadian Mennonite University athletic director Curt Warkentin will get some help to promote the CMU Blazers athletic program thanks to the $17,500 raised from the second annual CMU President’s Golf Tournament.

Ninety-nine golfers participated in the June 26 event, held for the first time at Breezy Bend Country Club, just southwest of Winnipeg. Thanks to sponsors and golfers, Warkentin is able to hire a part-time assistant athletic director for the upcoming academic year.

Dozens of prizes were awarded in a number of categories including best overall foursome score. The winners of that category each walked away with a DVD player. There were many draw prizes as well, giving plenty of opportunity for each golfer to walk away with a prize.

Also a first at this year’s tournament was a display of artwork by a local artist – this year Winnipeg painter Terri Heinrichs. She also donated a painting, which was one of the items in the silent auction.
