The Board of Discipleship Ministries of the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches is pleased to announce the appointment of Cam Rowland as executive director of Discipleship Ministries effective September 1, 2003. Cam is the first ED to serve in this capacity. Discipleship Ministries is a recent Conference initiative that merged the boards of Christian Education Ministries and Communications, the ministries of the Associate Director of the Board of Evangelism, the Centre for MB Studies and the General Conference ministry of Kindred Productions at the July 2002 convention in Abbotsford, BC. Rowland will give leadership to the vision and direction as well as manage the operations and staff accountability for the Board of Discipleship Ministries.

He has served the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary as Admissions Counselor and most recently as Associate Director of Constituency Relations. Prior to that he served as Youth Pastor of the Niverville (Man.) MB Church and Youth Pastor Intern at South Langley (B.C.) MB Church. He holds a BA from Providence College, Otterburne, Manitoba and an MA in church ministries with a focus on leadership development from Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary, Fresno, California.

Rowland’s personal mission statement is well aligned with the mission of the BDM “to equip reproducing leaders and empower people for Christian life and ministry”. As a Board we anticipate greater opportunities to equip and resource our churches as he gives leadership to this ministry. Rowland’s passion for discipleship ministries is evident when he says, “there is an incredible momentum within the Canadian churches and I am excited to join in this ministry. I’m energized to see how God has been at work as well as what He is going to do within our MB Churches and its discipleship ministries.”

John Neufeld, chair of the Board of Discipleship Ministries
