Edna Croissant
Edna Croissant died Mar. 31. She was born July 12, 1907 in Cathay, N.D. She married Peter Croissant Oct. 24, 1931 in Hilda, Alta. They farmed until 1948. Edna was a hard worker, helping with chores and at harvest, and taking in boarders to supplement their income. They moved to Medicine Hat, Alta. She was a housemother for nursing students at Medicine Hat General Hospital and was later in charge of housekeeping. She was a committed Christian, active in ladies’ mission society and teaching Sunday school. She was known for her needlework, cooking, and her German food. She loved gardening. She enjoyed camping and fishing trips and spending time with family. Predeceased by Peter, she is mourned by daughter Vivian Lautermilch of Calgary; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters. The funeral was Apr. 4 in South Country Village, Medicine Hat, with Murray Schmidt and Bob Findley ministering.
Margaret Daniels

Margaret Daniels died April 6. in Abbotsford, B.C. after a massive heart attack. She was born to Katharina and Peter Unger Feb. 1, 1920 in Sergeyevka, Ukraine. She married Theodore William Daniels in 1939. Theodore was drafted into the military 5 months after their first child was born in 1941. A second child, born prematurely in Markgroeningen, Germany in 1947, died after a few days. Margaret received a vision of Jesus with a crown of thorns and knew that Jesus died for her sins. She accepted Jesus and was baptized in Petershagen, Ukraine. In 1948 the family emigrated to St. Catharines, Ont. and moving to Arnold B.C. in October and then to Vancouver. Theodore died in 1960. She attended Vancouver and Culloden MB churches until 1996 when she moved to Abbotsford, B.C. and joined King Road MB Church. Her life of faith was an example to family and friends. Love for family was a priority. She enjoyed knitting, baking, gardening, swimming and vacationing with family. She was generous and had a positive attitude. Predeceased by Theodore, son Willie, 5 sisters and 1 brother, she is mourned by son John; daughters Laurie Penner and Elly Boldt; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 sister. Henry (Heinrich) Bartel

Henry Bartel died Mar. 5. He was born to Otto and Marie Bartel Sept. 8, 1923 in Grunau, West Prussia. His mother died when he was 2. His father married a widow with 3 children 3 years later. They had 5 more children. Henry learned agriculture on his father’s farm. In 1942 he joined the German army. He was a marksman and trained other soldiers. He was captured by the Russians and endured hard labour. He escaped from a Russian camp in Germany and fled to Berlin. He was reunited with his family. He married Waldtraut Achenbach. They immigrated to Alberta in 1952, living in Lethbridge, Coaldale and Calgary, where Henry worked in construction. In 1960 they both accepted the Lord through the Janz Team ministry; John 3:16 especially spoke to Henry. They moved to a hobby farm in Rosedale, B.C. in 1963. They attended Eden Mennonite Church, Chilliwack, participating in music. Henry worked in construction. In 1978 they moved back to Calgary. Waldtraut died Oct. 8, 1979. Henry married Heidi Bruchmann June 27, 1980 in Chilliwack. They lived in Calgary until 1986 when they moved to Mission, B.C. Henry retired in 1984. In 1997 his health began to deteriorate. He loved his Lord and rose early to read his Bible and pray for his family and others. He was kind, generous and hardworking. He is mourned by Heidi; sons Peter, Harald and Victor; daughters Hanna Neudorf, Gertie Verwey and Rosie Goertzen; 19 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. John Dueck

John Dueck died Apr. 3. He was born to Henry and Kartharina Dueck Apr. 30, 1925 in Elizabettal, Russia. In 1926 the family immigrated to Alberta. They attempted to farm here and in Saskatchewan. They moved to Vineland, Ont. in 1933, then to Niagara-on-the-Lake. They attended Vineland MB Church and later Virgil MB Church. He accepted the Lord during services led by John Penner, focussing on the New Jerusalem, between Christmas and New Year’s Day. He was baptized in 1944. In July 1947 he married Frieda. He farmed, worked in a paper mill, was a trucker and a factory worker. He became a crane operator for Port Weller Dry Docks for 43 years until retirement in 1990. They were involved in church; John served as a deacon, as a trustee and in hosting. During retirement they travelled to Europe, to the Caribbean and throughout North America. In 1995 they moved to Tabor Manor, St. Catharines. Predeceased by Frieda in December 2002 and 1 brother, he is mourned by sons Phil, Jon and Randy; daughters Judith Dueck-Johnson and Crystal Yoanidis; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 6 sisters; 4 brothers. Maria Klassen
Maria Klassen died Apr. 4. She was born to Jakob and Elizabeth Walde June 3, 1913 in Slavgorod, Russia. Her mother died when Maria was 6; 5 siblings died in Russia. In 1929 Maria, 2 sisters and their father moved to Paraguay. In 1932 she was baptized and joined Fernheim MB Church. In 1934 she married Johann Klassen. They farmed. In 1951 they moved to Brazil for health reasons, settling on a dairy farm in Guarituba. In 1961 they moved to St. Catharines, Ont., joining Scott St. MB Church. Maria worked in a cannery and on the farm. In 1994 they moved to Tabor Manor, St. Catharines. Predeceased by Johann in 1994, I son in infancy, 1 grandson, 6 brothers and 3 sisters, she is mourned by sons John, Ernie, Gerhard, Jacob, David, Al, Henry; daughters Mary, Anne and Elfriede; 30 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Apr. 8 in Scott St. MB Church with Patrick Bartley and Victor Loewen ministering.
Susanna Kasdorf

Susanna Kasdorf died Apr. 15. She was born to Wilhelm and Justina Unruh Sept. 17, 1911 in Glyaden, Siberia. When she was 10, her father died of typhus. She married Peter Kasdorf at 17. They emigrated to Morden, Man., where they farmed. In 1950 they sold their farm and moved to Niverville, Man. They accepted Jesus, were baptized and joined Morden MB Church. Later they transferred to Niverville MB Church. Rheumatic fever in her early 40s left her with a chronic heart condition. Glaucoma left her virtually blind in her final years. She enjoyed work on the farm, gardening, knitting, crocheting and quilting (for her family and MCC). She is remembered as a strong, stoic woman who loved God, her family and friends. Predeceased by Peter, son Corny, 2 grandsons, 5 brothers and 3 sisters, she is mourned by sons John and Frank of Winnipeg, Henry, Jake and Abe of Niverville, and Peter of Langley; daughters Jessie Martens of Winnipeg, Anne Neufeld of Steinbach, Man., Helen Koslowsky, Frieda Loeppky, Linda Loeppky and Betty of Niverville, Susan Martens of Abbotsford, B.C., Mary Loeppky of Kelowna, B.C. and Hilda of Florida; 42 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother. David Hubert

David Hubert died Apr. 9. He was born Sept. 2, 1917 to Frank and Helen Hubert near Omsk, Russia. In 1927 the family immigrated to Alberta, living briefly in Brooks and then in Coaldale. He married Mary Siebert Apr. 11, 1948. They farmed near Coaldale and were active in Coaldale MB Church. On Feb. 8, 1995 he suffered a severe stroke which resulted in a move to Coaldale Health Care Centre. He was grateful for the good care he received. David is remembered as a hard-working, fun-loving, gentle-spirited husband, father and grandfather who expressed his faith in practical ways. He promoted integrity and peace in personal, business and civic relationships. He served in alternative service as a conscientious objector in World War II. He loved fishing, hunting, travelling and enjoying nature. Predeceased by 4 brothers, 3 sister and 1 granddaughter, he is mourned by Mary; sons John of Coaldale, and Frank and Alvin of Bonanza, Alta; daughters Linda Funk of Spirit River, Alta and Leona Bartel of Lethbridge, Alta; 19 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 sister. The funeral was April 14 in Coaldale MB Church with Lorne Willms ministering.
Mary Kroeker

Mary Kroeker died Apr. 21. She was born to Franz and Eve Ewert Aug. 23, 1907 in Winnipeg. The family moved to Pambrun, Sask. when she was 4, and to Hepburn, Sask. when she was 11. She quit school after grade 8 to work on the farm. At 21 she accepted the Lord; she was baptized and joined Brotherfield (Sask.) MB Church. She sang in the choir. In 1933 she married John Kroeker. They farmed in Brotherfield. In 1947 they moved to Abbotsford, B.C. buying a fruit farm. Mary looked after the farm. They were charter members of McCallum Road MB Church (now Central Heights). She was the oldest surviving charter member before her death. In 1962 they sold the farm and moved to a new home. In 1979 they moved to a retirement home in Awana Housing Society. John died in 1981. Mary enjoyed entertaining, knitting, crocheting, playing piano and shopping. In November 1997 she suffered a stroke. She moved to several different care facilities. Predeceased by John and 9 siblings, she is mourned by daughter Ruby Massier; sons Jerry and Edgar; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother. The funeral was Apr. 24 in Central Heights Church, with Christopher Douglas ministering.
Wilfred Ermest Sagert
Wilf Sagert of Calgary died Apr. 26 of a heart attack. He was born to Ernest and Louise Sagert July 30, 1944. He married Darlene Sept. 7, 1968. Wilf worked 40 years in the oil and gas industry the last 5 running his own consulting firm, SAGE Resource Team. Family was of utmost importance; he spent quality time with them. His strong faith in Jesus was evident in his everyday life and interactions with family and friends. He was active in church and led small groups for men and married couples. He is remembered for his generous spirit, quick wit and desire to share God’s love with others. Predeceased by his mother and 2 brothers, he is mourned by Darlene; son Sean; daughters Shanna and Heidi Peterson; 1 granddaughter; his father; 2 sisters; 1 brother. Eric Vanderham
Eric Vanderham died Apr. 4 of a heart attack. He was born to Andy and Helen Vanderham July 5, 1964 in Breda, Holland. He was known for his generous spirit and sense of humour and optimism. His life was a testimony to his faith in God, based on Psalm 16:8,9,11. He is mourned by his wife Paula; son Joshua; daughter Samantha; his parents; 1 sister. William Wiebe

William Wiebe died Dec. 18 of cancer. He was born Feb. 4, 1933 in Turtle Mountain, Man. In 1947 the family moved to Abbotsford, B.C. Bill was baptized in 1948, joining West Abbotsford Mennonite Church. After graduating from MEI, he attended Normal School in Vancouver, becoming a teacher. He married Helen Letkeman in 1952. He taught in Crescent Spur, B.C., then in various other parts of B.C. He spent a year studying at Canadian Mennonite Bible College, Winnipeg, and earned his Master’s degree in education at Western Washington University, Bellingham, Wash. He taught high school in Surrey, B.C. and worked as an orderly in Surrey Hospital in the evenings. In 1963 they bought a hobby farm near Clearbrook. He taught at Abbotsford Junior High School, was foreman at Abbotsford Growers in summer and grew raspberries and raised livestock. At age 48, they sold the farm. He worked in real estate until retirement. He took numerous short-term mission trips with Church Partnership Evangelism to Central and South America. He was enthusiastic about the opportunity to share his testimony. Bill loved to ride his motorcycle, taking trips through B.C., Alberta, Washington and Oregon. He sang in the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir and Abbotsford Male Chorus. He played numerous instruments. He is mourned by Helen; sons Dan, Bob, Ken and Loren; daughter Elaine. The funeral was Dec. 23 in Mountain Park Community Church, Abbotsford, with Cam Stuart and Abe Tilitzky ministering.
Frank Herman Isaac

Frank Herman Isaac died Feb. 3. He was born to Herman and Katharina Isaak about July 21, 1913 in Arkadak, Russia. The family moved to Manitoba in 1926. Frank worked on farms and at Shellenberg’s General Store in Steinbach. He married Sara Ann Loewen Oct. 3, 1936. The family moved to Vineland, Ont. Feb. 14, 1941. He worked on the Culp Farm, then at Columbus Chain. They moved to Beamsville, Ont., then to a farm. Frank farmed by day and worked at Foster Wheeler at night. After retiring and selling the farm, he worked at Bartletts, travelled across Ontario to repair machinery. He was a member of Vineland MB Church, serving as usher and deacon. He made many house and hospital visits. He sang in men’s choirs. Predeceased by Sara in 1996, 6 sisters and 1 brother, he is mourned by son Rudy; daughters Hertha and Linda; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother. The funeral was Feb. 7 in Fairview MB Church, St. Catharines, Ont. with Waldo Pauls and Doug Schulz ministering.
Justina Rogalsky
Justina Rogalsky died Mar. 29. She was born to John and Justina Giesbrecht May 9, 1907 in Beck Bulachi, Crimea, Russia. Her mother died July 14, 1907. Justina was raised in several different families until being taken in by the John Rogalsky family at age 7. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour at 16. She was baptized and joined the Krimmer MB Church in 1923. She immigrated to Canada with the Rogalsky family in 1925. They lived in Markham, Ont. for a year, then moved to Kingsville, Ont. and later to Leamington, Ont. She joined Leamington MB Church. She married Gerhard Rogalsky. He died Sept. 25, 1968. She spent time helping friends and neighbours, and praying for her family. She moved to Tabor Manor, St. Catharines in 1978 and joined Fairview MB Church in 1980. She attended services as long as her health allowed. She is mourned by daughter Anne Isaac; sons Peter and Paul; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Leslie (Les) Julius Zilkie
Leslie Zielkie died suddenly Apr. 2. He was born Apr. 11, 1929 in Ridgeville, Man. He married Joyce Kort in Winnipeg Aug. 31, 1957. He had a servant’s heart and never missed an opportunity to help others. He was a man of faith who loved his Lord and shared his faith with all. He is mourned by Joyce; daughters Sherilyn Lamoureaux and Lori Friesen; son Wesley; 8 grandchildren; 3 brothers; 1 sister. William (Bill) Bergman
William Bergman of Winnipeg died Mar. 24. He was born Apr. 16, 1922. He leaves a legacy of love for people, Jesus and His Word. He was devoted to his family. Predeceased by son Garry in 1976, he is mourned by Tiena, his wife of 57 years; daughters Judy, Grace and Karen; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. John Wiens

John Wiens of Langley, B.C. died May 3. He was born to Jacob and Katherina Wiens Sept. 7, 1933 in Fabikerwiese, South Russia. He lost his father to the Russian army when he was 4 and lost his mother when he was 8. Friends cared for him and his younger brother until 1943 when they fled to Poland. His maternal grandmother took them to Germany. After the war, his uncle Peter Wiens located them through the Red Cross and brought them to Canada. They became part of the family. He received Christ as a teen and was baptized, joining East Aldergrove (B.C.) MB Church. He married Helen Klassen Nov. 1, 1956. They moved in Langley, B.C. in the mid-1960s and became part of the Brookswood (now South Langley) MB Church plant. He was a caring, giving father, spending many hours studying God’s Word and praying. He loved the church and was involved in various ministries. He is mourned by Helen; sons Gerald, Les and Rob; daughter Kathy Grainger; 12 grandchildren; 2 sisters; 2 brothers. The funeral was May 8 in South Langley MB Church with Wes Dahl and Lorraine Dick ministering.
Abram D. Hiebert

Abram D. Hiebert died Oct. 19, at Menno Home, Abbotsford, B.C. He was born to Abram and Justina Hiebert May 4, 1911 in Herbert, Sask. He grew up in Winkler, Man. He was baptized and joined the MB Church. He farmed near Steinbach, Man. He married Elisabeth (Betty) Giesbrecht June 26, 1938. he was the spiritual leader of his home, leading the family in Bible reading, discussion and prayer before breakfast and supper each day. He was a farmer, carpenter and shoemaker. He was janitor for 25 years, and later chaplain at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital. He taught Sunday school and led Bible studies. He possessed a keen sense of humour which he stifled because to him being a spiritual leader and humour did not mix. He was respected as a man of great faith, always having a kind word or Scripture to encourage. They moved to Abbotsford, B.C. in 1985. He recorded Bible stories, sermons and choruses to give to others. Predeceased by Betty in 2001, he is mourned by children Ruth Giesbrecht, Walter, and Lydia Penner, all of Manitoba; Bill, Viola Blakeburn, Vic and Dennis, all of Abbotsford; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers; 1 sister. The funeral was Oct. 25 in South Abbotsford MB Church with David Epp ministering.
