Helen Sorge

Helen Sorge

Helen Sorge of Abbotsford, B.C. died Mar. 19. She was born Feb. 20, 1931 to Abram and Louise Dyck in Filadelfia, Paraguay. She received Jesus as her Saviour, was baptized Apr. 22, 1946 and joined the MB church. She came to Mission, B.C. with her family Dec. 25, 1950. She worked in Vancouver. She married Emil Sorge Oct. 18, 1953. They bought a house in south Vancouver in 1955, and retired to Clearbrook in 1981. Helen was known for her beautiful rose gardens and loved to cook and bake. She volunteered at the Community Centre and at church, serving on the funeral catering committee and caring for the flowers outside the church building. After a series of strokes, she moved to Tabor Home. Predeceased by Emil in 1996 and a brother in infancy, she is mourned by son Karl; daughter Rita Steuart; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother. The memorial service was Mar. 24 in Clearbrook MB Church with Walter Wiens and Heinz Ratzlaff ministering.

Cornelius J. Unruh

Cornelius J. Unruh

Cornelius J. Unruh of Morden, Man. died Apr. 7 at age 75. He had served as a medical doctor in Morden for 42 years. Predeceased by 1 sister, he is mourned by wife Katy, sons: Philip of Carman, Man., Tim of Whistler, B.C. and Ramsy of Winnipeg; daughters Noni Goertzen of Langley, B.C. and Christy Jennings of Toronto; 15 grandchildren; 3 sisters. The funeral was Apr. 11 in Westside Community Church, Morden, with Russ Toews ministering.

Art Heppner

Art Heppner of Brandon, Man. died Apr. 6. He was born Mar. 10, 1927 in Morden, Man. and grew up on a farm. He was publisher of the Morden Times, general manager of Pembina Poultry Packers, and supervisor with Kimberly Clark Fibre Division. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. Predeceased by 5 siblings, he is mourned by his wife Kathleen; daughters Joanne of Whistler, B.C., Myrna of Portage la Prairie, Man. and Cheryl of Brandon; son Duane of Portage la Prairie. The funeral was Apr. 10 in Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, Brandon, with Dave Ens ministering.

Marilyn Willms

Marilyn Willms

Marilyn Louise Willms of Richmond, B.C. died suddenly Mar. 9. She was born Nov. 27, 1934 to Alfred and Dora Follows in Amherstburg, Ont. She had a secretarial career. She married Ted Brewer in 1954. They lived on the east coast of Maine where Marilyn acquired an interest in ocean sports. She coached girls softball and basketball teams, and led Girl Scout troops. The marriage ended in divorce in 1974. Marilyn moved to Ontario, working at the University of Guelph. She married Ed Willms Apr. 15, 1976, accepting his son and daughter. They moved to Kelowna, B.C. in 1978. She loved gardening and was hospitable and generous. She made a commitment to Christ and took her faith seriously, demonstrating her love for God in personal devotions and acts of kindness. She joined the Gideons, volunteered and ministered to street youth in Vancouver. In 1989 they moved to Abbotsford, B.C. They travelled full-time for several years, across Canada, to 46 states and overseas, then settled in White Rock, B.C. and later in Richmond. She is mourned by Ed; son Russell; daughter Barb; grandchildren. The funeral was Mar. 13 in Fraserview MB Church, Richmond.

Katharina (Tina) Tilitzky

Katharina (Tina) Tilitzky

Katharina Tilitzky died Mar. 23 in Herbert, Sask. She was born Dec. 3, 1904 to Heinrich and Maria Andres in Grunthal, Man. In 1910 the family homesteaded near Herbert. She attended school to grade 4. Her mother died when Katharina was 13; she looked after her younger siblings. She accepted Christ during revival meetings with Johan Kroeker at Greenfarm, Sask. and was baptized in 1918 by J.W. Thiessen, joining Greenfarm MB Church. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. In 1928 her father, stepmother and 3 younger siblings moved to Texas. She was lonely but her faith in God grew stronger. She married Jacob Tilitzky Apr. 17, 1932 in Greenfarm MB Church. They farmed. She cared for others, including her parents when they returned to Herbert. She loved gardening, especially African violets. She sewed, quilted, crocheted, hooked rugs and made dolls. Predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters, she is mourned by Jacob; daughters Elsie Thiessen of Swift Current, Sask., Nettie Wiebe of Regina and Mary Christianson of Nanoose Bay, B.C.; son Ben of Edmonton; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; 1 brother. The funeral was Mar. 28 in Herbert MB Church with Henry Dueck and Bob Cappelle ministering.
