A prayer for the church

Sue Careless

Previous | Next

May our local congregation not think herself of little worth, for you will be in her midst if two or three are gathered there in your name; nor of such self-importance that she forgets that your anger was vented upon those in the temple at Jerusalem. Open our eyes to perceive not only our neighbour and our home community but also the Church Militant throughout the world. We praise you most especially for her where she bears the wounds of persecution for your sake. Give us a vision of your holy bride, the Church Triumphant, washed pure in the blood of the Lamb and worshipping you with angels and archangels and all the heavenly hosts. Prepare us even now with these our fellow mortals for that day. Amen.
