CPED visits former MB Church in Ukraine

Abbotsford, B.C.

Previous | Next

Only three Mennonite church buildings have survived the turmoil of the World War II in the Molotschna area of Ukraine. One church, in Petershagen, has been restored. This congregation, together with smaller groups in Gnadenfeld and Tokmak, supplied a recent Church Partnership Evangelism and Discipleship group of 20 persons with effective co-workers.

When the group served in Rueckenau-Kosolygovka, they were summoned to City Hall where the mayor addressed them very affectionately, saying, “I have been approached repeatedly by people who want to tear down the church and use the good quality bricks of 1883 to build houses for themselves. But I would like to have this building restored as a monument to the Mennonites and to be used for the purpose it was built for, a house of God.” The group felt challenged and encouraged that this area can have a place for worship.
