Michael W. Smith, a multi-Grammy winning recording artist and 2002, Artist of the Year Dove Award winner, has put out a second worship CD, entitled Worship Again. Previously, in June of 2001 he produced a platinum album, entitled Worship. The current CD was released in October, 2002 and was recorded in July, live in front of a overflow crowd of 11,000 at the Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Ky. Worship Again is Smith’s 16th recording. I was excited when I heard news of this new CD. This will, of course, give away my age, but I remember when Michael’s public career began in the 1970s as a wonderful songwriter and up and coming solo artist. While in Bible school I attended a concert on his first tour with Amy Grant. I was impressed at that point with his piano abilities, of course with my own interests, but also with his energy and composing skills. I also saw his heart for ministry. A few years ago I had a chance to watch Smith lead worship on a Billy Graham Crusade broadcast. I was deeply moved with his heart for the Lord and for his desire to lead others in worship. I purchased a copy of his CD Worship and always feel the closeness of God as I am brought into His presence. Worship Again has many popular praise songs that are favorites, including, “The Wonderful Cross”, “Here I am to Worship”, “Step by Step”, “There is None Like You” and “I Give You My Heart”. Several titles, including “The Sacred Romance”, an instrumental piece, “I Can Hear Your Voice”, and “Forever We Will Sing”, are originals by Michael, two of these co-written with wife Debbie. There is also a studio cut included on the CD entitled “Lord Have Mercy”, which features Amy Grant. A bonus cut, entitled “There She Stands”, written by Michael, is very inspiring. The quality and variety of the worship band and singers is quite impressive. While I listen to this CD I am brought into the presence of my Lord. I believe that this was the purpose of the production of this Worship Again project. Of course Michael’s talent is very evident and exudes, but above all, Christ is honoured. | ||||||||
