Ted Goossen resigned as associate pastor of Winkler (Man.) MB Church, effective Nov. 15, after serving for over three years. Previously, he served as the first full-time director of Winkler Bible Camp for 10 years; served for 10-and-a-half years as director of Simonhouse Bible Camp and pastor of Grace Church of the Mennonite Brethren in Cranberry Portage, Man.; and then was full-time director of Simonhouse Bible Camp for three-and-a-half years. He has a B.A. from the University of Manitoba and an M.Div. from Providence Theological Seminary. His wife Mary has a Bachelor of Home Economics degree; taught junior high school for three years; was a substitute teacher in Cranberry Portage and Winkler; and served as head cook at Winkler and Simonhouse Bible Camps. The Goossens have four grown children (one of whom has passed away) and two grandsons. Their future plans are uncertain.

In June Terry Goertzen will become lead pastor of Jubilee Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. He has been serving as associate pastor of youth and families at the church since Jan. 1, 1997. Previously, he served for four years as associate pastor of youth at Cornerstone Church in Saskatoon. He has a B.Th. from Okanagan Bible College and is pursuing an M.Div. from Winnipeg Theological Consortium through consortium partner Canadian Mennonite University. He and his wife SuAnn have three children, Michal, 8, Brodie, 5, and Neko, 2. Allan and Irene Labun, who have been serving as interim lead pastor couple at the church since September 2001, will continue in that position until June.

Donald Thompson became interim pastor of Restigouche Valley Church in Campbellton, N.B. on Dec. 15; he will continue until a full-time pastor is appointed or until June 30, 2003. He retired last summer after teaching school for 34 years. He has an M.Ed. from Harvard University and for many years has been a lay reader in Christ (Anglican) Church in Campbellton. He and his wife Sandra have three grown children and seven grandchildren.

David Fields served a youth pastoral internship at Westwood MB Church in Prince George, B.C. from September 2001 to August 2002, then became part-time (12 hours a week) youth worship pastor at the church. He is studying toward his Bachelor of Science degree in outdoor recreation at the University of Northern British Columbia. He is engaged to be married to Kathryn Hall next June.

Paul Enns served as half-time director of music and worship at Peace Arch Fellowship in South Surrey, B.C. from September 2001 to August 2002. He and his wife Louanne had previously been active in Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C., for 12 years. He has served on the Worship Commission of the B.C. MB Conference Board of Church Ministries for five years and has been involved in an itinerant worship leading and preaching ministry in a variety of settings. He has a B.A. from Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, B.C. and is now a full-time student at Regent College in Vancouver.

Annie Brosseau, who resigned as editor of Le Lien, the Canadian MB Conference French-language periodical, in December (see Dec. 6 issue), is now serving with her husband Jean-Victor as co-representative for Mennonite Central Committee Canada in Quebec. Jean-Victor has held the latter post alone since 1996.

Juanita Heidebrecht

Twenty-three workers participated in an orientation at Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, Pa. Nov. 5–19. Eleven are beginning overseas assignments, and 12 are beginning North American assignments. Juanita Heidebrecht of St. Catharines, Ont., is beginning a two-year assignment as a computer service manager in Winnipeg. She has a computer engineering technology degree from Niagara College of Applied Science and Technology, Welland, Ont., and was last employed as a computer information technician at Ridley College, St. Catharines. She attends Scott Street MB Church, St. Catharines and is married to Kevin Hildebrant.

Pemberton (B.C.) Christian Fellowship, at its Sunday morning service Sept. 15, celebrated the installation of Mark and Kathy Leverton (centre) as half-time pastoral apprentice couple. B.C. MB Conference minister Ike and Shirley Bergen (left), leadership team members Bert Van De Wetering and Doug Shelrud, and Elisabeth and pastor Neil Klassen (right) gathered around the Levertons for prayers of commitment. Mark teaches high school half-time, and Kathy teaches elementary school. They have been active serving the church in pre-teen work, worship leading and home group hosting. Mark has done some preaching and had been church moderator.

Correction: In the Nov. 15 issue, we reported that Mable Law was serving as full-time children’s ministries pastor at South Vancouver Pacific Grace MB Church. She is actually enrolled in the church’s one-year pastor-in-training program, finishing in March 2003, and is not the children ministries pastor. We apologize for publishing the incorrect information.

Columbia Bible College

January 2003

Dear Friends,

It is with great joy that I share with you the process of restoration involving Ian Gibson, the former Director of Enrolment at Columbia Bible College. Ian has fully repaid all monies that he had taken from the College. The faculty and staff met together to listen to Ian’s confession and to extend to him our forgiveness. We are grateful for Ian’s example of authentic repentance and for the doorways now open to restored relationship. Thank you for your prayers both for Ian and his family, and for our College.

Paul Wartman,
President, Columbia Bible College
