Credit Union wants to share strengths

Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (MSCU), a credit union open to members of Mennonite, Amish and Brethren in Christ churches, held meetings in three different Ontario regions to share thoughts and views about their member-owned institution. The mission statement of the credit union is “to meet the financial services needs of our members in a manner that is both competitive and consistent with our shared Anabaptist values”. It was founded in 1964 to provide a vehicle for financial mutual aid within Ontario’s Anabaptist faith community. Total assets now exceed $400 million. The services offered are similar to most financial institutions (savings and chequing accounts, mortgages, loans, etc.) but the MSCU is unique in that operates with faith-based values, and offers financial planning from a socially responsible perspective. There are mutual aid programs in place that enable members to help other members in times of need. They also offer church builder programs as well as young leaders’ scholarships.
