Previous | Next Pincher Creek, Alta. Flood hastens move

Last June, the community of Pincher Creek, Alta. experienced flooding. After three years of drought, 12 inches of rain fell in the hills and mountains to the west of town and 9 inches in the town. This proved too much of a good thing for the creek running through the centre of town, causing some flooding for a few days. Due to sewer backup, the Foothills Community Church basement was flooded, as well as some residences on the street. Church members cleaned out the basement and had to discard a lot of Sunday school and other material.

Because of the extensive damage, the church decided not to repair the building and not to use it for now, but to sell the property and start work on a new building. This had been in the planning for a while already. A building committee is working on plans, the church has a lot on the north side of town and members hope that within a year or so they will be ready to proceed with the work.

Roy Smyth, owner and director of the Pincher Creek Funeral Service, has offered the church the use of the funeral homes very fine chapel for Sunday services. For social events, the church has met in other locations.

The congregation is happy to see new people coming to its services and solicits the prayers of brothers and sisters in the MB Conference in their efforts to expand in Pincher Creek. Foothills Community Church
