Merv Boschman has resigned as Director of Development for Columbia Bible College, effective June 30, completing five years of service. Previously he worked for two years in sales and promotion at Word Records (Canada), served as associate pastor for youth at Willingdon Church in Burnaby, B.C. for two years, was director of admissions and recruitment at Fresno Pacific College for three years, was church planter/senior pastor of Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C. for six years, was associate pastor of Forest Grove Community Church in Saskatoon for four years, served for one year as interim executive director of evangelism for the Canadian MB Conference and was church planter/senior pastor of Fraser Heights Community Church in Surrey, B.C. for five years. He is a graduate of MB Bible Institute (now Columbia Bible College) and has a B.A. from Fresno Pacific College, an M.Min. from Associated Canadian Theological Schools and an M.A. from MB Biblical Seminary. He and his wife Carol have two grown sons. They are looking for God’s direction as to their future ministry.

Effective Oct. 14, Darren Duerksen joined MBMS International as half-time area director for the Pacific District of the United States, while he and wife Shahna also begin work as half-time Asian Indian resource missionaries. In their role as resource missionaries, the Duerksens will minister among Hindus and Sikhs in Canada and the United States (including establishing an outreach among the 70,000 Asian Indians in the Central Valley of California, who currently have no known Anabaptist/evangelical Christian church), encourage North American MB churches in their involvement with the India MB Conference, connect with former missionaries and other concerned individuals involved in ministry to India, and be MBMS International’s liaison to Mennonite Brethren churches in India. As area director for the Pacific District, Darren joins other area directors in Abbotsford, B.C., Winnipeg and Wichita, Kan. who work with MB pastors and congregations in defining mission vision and helping turn that vision into reality. Darren and Shahna spent a year studying and doing ministry in India 2001–2002. Darren is a 2002 graduate of MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif., and Shahna is currently working toward a Master of Arts in Intercultural Mission there.



Curtis Congo is completing his ministry Dec. 31 as six-tenths-time pastor of home ministries at Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C. He began ministry at the church over six-and-a-half years ago as pastor of care and family ministries. He is also half-time associate professor of church ministries at Trinity Western Seminary, part of the Associated Canadian Theological Schools consortium in Langley, B.C., and teaches communications at Trinity Western University. He and his wife Joanne lead marriage enrichment seminars in various churches. He has a B.A. from Vancouver Bible College, an M.A. from Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, Calif. and an Ed.D. in adult education from Oregon State University. He has previously served as an associate pastor in churches in California, Washington and B.C., taught communications at Oregon State University and was professor of church ministries at Northwest Baptist Theological College and Seminary 1988–98. The Congos have two grown children, Tanya and Melissa. They are waiting on the Lord for direction for future ministry.

Jacques Charbonneau has been appointed half-time pastor of l’Église chrétienne de Saint-Jérôme (Que.). In 1983 he earned a diploma from Institut biblique Laval (now École de théologie évangélique de Montréal). In 1984 he served as associate pastor of l’Église chrétienne de Saint-Jérôme. After taking further studies, he returned to the church, where he has served as a layman in the areas of teaching and organization. In addition to his pastoral position, he has a part-time position teaching moral and religious studies at a school in Laval. He and his wife Louise have three children, Nathan, 16, Benjamin, 14, and Louise-Pier, 11.

Walter and Edith Wiens were installed as associate pastor couple at Clearbrook MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C. in the evening service on Oct. 13. B.C. MB Conference associate conference minister Bob Friesen led in the installation ceremony. Walter and Edith served as deacons at Richmond Bethel Church in Richmond, B.C. and as pastor couple for four years at Crestwood MB Church in Medicine Hat, Alta. Walter was chaplain for 14 years at Headingly Correctional Institute in Manitoba, and also served briefly as a hospital chaplain. Most recently he worked in a decorating and renovation business. They have two children, a son and a daughter, both of whom were married in August. Walter has Masters degrees in Theology from Regent College in Vancouver and MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif. Edith graduated from MB Bible Institute (now Columbia Bible College) in Abbotsford.



Hyde Creek Community Church in Port Coquitlam, B.C. has hired Joel Luyt as part time youth pastor. He is a fourth-year student at Columbia Bible College, completing a B.A. in Biblical Studies and two-year diplomas in Youth Ministry and Outdoor Recreation Leadership. He plans on finishing these eight years of schooling in five years; this youth pastor position fulfills part of his internship requirement at CBC. He will be mentored by senior pastor Ken Braun. Joel’s home town is Chatham, Ont.

Darren Petker began ministry Sept. 1 as part-time (15 hours a week) junior high intern pastor at Ross Road Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C. under the B.C. Pastoral Apprenticeship Program. Originally from Coaldale (Alta.) MB Church, he is a fourth year student at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford. He and his wife Judi were married this summer.

Mennonite and Brethren in Christ Resource Centre Board of Directors has announced that Sara Martin has been appointed manager. She replaces Anne Brubacher, who managed the Resource Centre for the past 18 years. The Centre is the audio-visual and print resource library of Mennonite conferences in Ontario, including the Ontario Conference of Mennonite Brethren.



Seven members were welcomed into the initial membership of Forest Grove (B.C.) Church by James Nikkel, executive director of the Board of Church on May 19, 2 by transfer, five by baptism. Becoming members were: Victor Stobbe (interim pastor) (t), Helen Stobbe (t), Rich Brown (b), Cindy Brown (b), Robin Suffill (b), Jason Selle (b) and Beverly Selle (b). Baptized July 7 was Francis Suffill and Aug. 4 was Joanna Towes.

The Board of Discipleship Ministries has accepted the resignation of Annie Brosseau as editor of Le Lien as of December 31. Brosseau has been the editor of the French Mennonite Brethren periodical for 13 years. The Board has appreciated Annie’s leadership in her role as editor; she has been willing to tackle difficult subjects, particularly in the areas of mental health and evangelism. Annie has been the fifth editor of Le Lien, and the Board, together with a nominations committee from the Quebec MB Conference, is looking for a new editor.
